How To Creatively Edit Your Photography - Lightroom How to Edit

Welcome back to another video, this week I take you behind the lens and into Lightroom. I want to share with you how I edit my images because it's actually a big part of how to create a compelling photograph. I also have some fun and exciting announcements! Let me know if you have any good folk songs which help you connect to nature, I am researching at the moment music I can cover without any copyright issues. Also I have a few 2022 calendars left if anyone would like one!

My 2022 Calendar is available here on my website for purchase:

Music from Epidemic Sound:

A very interesting video and insight as to how you edit an image. I particularly like the second image and how the crop made the image. Keep up the good work.

Glad you are feeling better. My main interest is macro photography but I kept trying landscapes but was never happy with the results. The eureka moment came as I used the crop tool at 16-9 it just changed the photos to appeal to me, as you say in the video you need to try different crops. On my Fuji I can set it to 16-9 to compose the photo when taking it. Import the raw file and crop is already done but can get back the full photo by clicking refresh in the develop mode. I process my photos mainly in pastel colours, mostly sunrises which reflect the calm way I feel at the time. A tip I was given is to increase saturation and then reduce dehaze to soften the colours overall or with specific areas with the new masking feature. Looking forward to future videos and take care.

Lightroom tips:

1 - if you move the cursor over the histogram when in Develop module, the display will show the band of the histogram that is covered by the whites control, highlights control, blacks control etc. If you click and hold and then move the cursor left or right, the highlight/whites/whatever control will increase/decrease.

2 - Saturation boosts or cuts all colours similarly. Vibrance boosts or cuts the saturation of muted colours whist leaving the more saturated colours alone. Put a colour test card into LR to play with and you'll see right away what the difference is between these two controls.

Im not one for editing, as I am not to shaw on what editing softwear to go with. Not keen on a monthly subcription and some of the others, dont suport my camera in raw. Your video has highlight the for argunement. You keep giving us surprises, with your talents, now singing, and folk music, cant wait. Find yourself a good agent, like The Fishermans Frends, you be made. All the best for your recovery and stay safe. See you next time.

Thank you Suzannah for sharing your video as always you have done an amazing job. Especially the way you brought out the colours and still keeping it natural the crop really transformed the images the both edits were excellent I really liked the second one keep up the good work

Enjoyed this one Suzannah. Thank you. Unfortunately the only editing software I've got is the software that was already installed on the laptop when I got it, which isn't Lightroom or Photoshop. But I can do most of what you can do with Lightroom and it's good enough. I know Lightroom isn't expensive and I don't really know why I don't get it. It's probably a) because I'm so familiar with what I've already got and b) because it's free!

I love this glimpse of editing your photo’s, it has helped me enormously being new to Light Room. You mention singing during your videos, when the first image came on the screen my immediate thoughts we drawn to Eva Cassidy and the song Autumn Leaves. Such a beautiful song within a magical setting. Image 2 had me drifting along with the Chieftains and Lisa Hanigan singing My Lagan love. Thank you so very much for a great video, I look forward with so much interest watching you evolve your Chanel.

I love woodland photography. I love nice soft woodland light & editing. I also have a slight dislike of greens!! On a similar note to your last image, I also very often take woodland panorama images too either at 85mm or with the 80-200mm. I know the whole process takes longer but it's a good reason to spend more time there. Great video though with some great tips for people.

I think folk music and woodland photography are probably a perfect match in my book, such a great fit. I always use a little negative clarity when processing woodland shots, seems to take the harshness out sometimes. Look forward to hearing your music :)

I've tried doing videos like this on the past and really struggled with doing them. Great work with this! Nice view into your mindset and process

Glad to hear you are feeling better. A really useful video. I am just starting out on photo editing. My aim is to get the image as close as posible to what I was trying to capture. Tweaking the colours and exposure plus a bit of cropping is about it. I liked the abstract look of the first image. You managed to produce something from nothing.

I look forward to hearing you sing! The first one does look a lot like a painting. I didn’t used to like editing pictures because I felt it was unnatural because you’re changing what the real picture was but now I think of it as art and as art you can manipulate it as much as you want.
