Making this video made me look back and reflect on what fruit really worked to keep my blood sugars normal. I need to eat these more and cut back on the ice-cream (my guilty pleasure)... I hope this video will inspire some of you to improve your "fruit eating habits" and blood sugar control.

I love Mangos, but I do not eat them pure because this would spike my blood sugar. I mix it with the same amount of greek yogurt and almond milk to get kind of a Mango lassi. This works quite well for me.

Excellent information! I would caution anyone eating grapefruit who is on a statin to check with their doctor. Grapefruit has some compounds that can interfere with some statins, but not all. You can even find lists on the internet which will let you know which statins are affected. Avocados are fantastic for just about everything and I suggest everyone eat them because they are delicious! 😄

Botanically many of our foods are fruits, like tomatoes, peppers, eggplants, nuts, because they are part of the reproductive process of plants. Culinary fruits are the ones we are used to.

Pink guava has the highest protein count of all fruits. Bonus!

Coconut Ice Cream is my favorite. With all the fat, extended bolus. Great treat. So yes for coconut being fruit.

I love Blackberries and Raspberries alongside Blueberries and placing them in plain Greek Yoghurt is quite a desert, although I have to limit this to 2x a week as dairy can be a burden to my body. I'm tempted to try Goji Berries. I love Pomegranate seeds (usually 2-3x a week tops).

People run down bananas and it seems to be the norm these days, but I get on much better with green bananas and they don't cause throat clearing issues for me like the ripened ones do but they may not be advised for diabetics but then I'm not a diabetic so it is not for me to say really. The yellow bananas do cause a blood sugar crash in me however but the green ones don't (thankfully) so I will keep them in for post gym workouts - alongside a small handful of cherries.

I didn't know that info about the apples however. Coconuts I don't really bother with but I do take a spoonful of cold pressed organic coconut oil from time to time. I did have the coconut drink from the coconut itself though when I travelled through Thailand in April 2016 and I can attest, it is refreshing for a while.

Grapefruits are too sour for my liking unfortunately, but I eat a few Oranges from time to time, but in limited doses as more of a post gym and dance workout.

As for Avocados, I cannot stand either the texture or taste of them. They're just slimy to me, but that's just my personal taste prefix admittedly. I would love to know where to get the high protein low carb bread though that is mentioned in the "14 foods to lower insulin spikes" as that looks nice and I cannot find any bread that I'm really suited to. I don't get on well with most modern grains at all. I'm better with fruit, veg, meat and fish, and maybe this is more of a Northern Celtic thing for me.

I lived in Malaysia for a few years and found Pomelo to be ok for me. Need to check if ok with statins as similar to grapefruit. Did not cause rapid sugar spikes and not as bitter as grapefruit do does not need sweetener. Very refreshing.

According to the American Diabetes Association (ADA), although they contain sugars and carbohydrates, eating apples and other fruit is not a problem for a person with either type 1 diabetes or type 2 diabetes. Apples contain a different kind of sugar to foods with added sugar, and they also contain fiber and nutrients.

Hi Tom! I’ve recently subscribed & become a patron—yay! I am a Type 2 diabetic, using a Medtronic pump (670G) and very recently a Freestyle Libre 2 user. However, my HBA1c is not great. I’m enjoying your videos immensely. I have a question regarding my current diet. What one dietary difference—to start—would you suggest to begin improving my BG levels & HBA1c? I realize you are not a medical professional; I would just like an opinion based on your experience. Thank you!
