You literally made a pro gamer move when coming up with the latency test

Holy shit, this was some amazing testing. Thank you so much for this info! +1 sub. I'm seriously considering finally switching to Linux and using Windows only in a KVM to play some games that refuse to run on Linux.

Just Wow. This is the kind of content I was looking for long time. The latency tests results are just "wow"! I'm in the process of building a new workstation with the i9-13900k + 192gb ram for this precise use case (using a vm for different work environments, from web development to video editing to music production) and these results are giving me confidence that going bare metal to virtual is a the way.

Fantastic stuff, I'm moving to Linux full time and the only thing holding a foot in Windows happens to be competitive anti-cheat. I'm definitely going to tinker with this solution while I wait for Valve to finish sorting out Proton and thank you bunches for the inspiration.

Great video. I feel like the mouse moving would be a good way to measure since it can go up to 1000hz and is where I can usually feel latency in shooters, but I have no idea how you would do that lmao.

This was a really fun rabbit hole to jump down. Awesome video series.

Thanks, this is good to know. Also, you'd need to pass-through your audio device to prevent audio lag! Or else I'm expecting ~40ms, which is noticeable depending on the game.

couple of milliseconds of latency is still much better than latency caused by server processing and packet delivery over the network, i'm excited about this tbh because this means competitive games can be played competitively without any disadvantage

This videos on VFIO performance are awesome man, keep up the good work. Bout to cop more ram so I can build my Windows VM just to play dead by daylight so its good to see it will be a native-like experience

Fantastic. Thank you. Facts, details, objective information; tech. No babbling or fillers.

I’ve been gaming on a VM for a while on my headless system. With kids I don’t have the luxury of sitting at a desk to play games…plus, I no longer have an office. Even with adding the streaming latency to the mix it’s hard to tell there is any lag in-home and then when on the road it’s minimal when I use Parsec and turn down the resolution a bit.

Learned first about vfio on your Channel. Seems to be the Saint Graal... How come no body talks about it and people still struggle with wine and popOS

This is all very exciting! Thanks for sharing. This would be great for my workflow as well if the latency is almost non-existent. I could have an instance of windows or mac os to do work on my tablet screen and then an instance of windows to play games etc. Eliminating the need to get two different machines. ( I would really like to have my personal computer not be also my work computer ahaha)

2:58 This is genius, so many of these solutions are overengineered.

4:02 HOLY SHIT this is like 10x higher than my TOTAL latency, although that's testing in overwatch 2
I need to copy this methodology to see if I can see what my latency is on CS:GO

I will say though, perhaps consider getting a better mouse if you game because I suspect it's only running at 125hz, which you can overclock but even then the switch could have belay built in and it won't track aswell and it has a horrible wire, etc. for £20-40 you can get a mouse that will do you to the end of days and will do 90% of what top tier mice can do.
