Czechoslovakia - Czechia and Slovakia
Czechoslovakia was already quite divided in terms of its economy, culture and religion and the Czechs generally had more representation then the Slovaks. This led the Czechs and the Slovaks to both go their own ways and in 1993, Czechoslvakia peacefully seperate in what is known as the Velvet Divorce.
Serbia - Serbia and Montenegro
The main cause of this separation had todo with Montenegro wanted more control over its economy and wanted a stronger political identity. Montenegro held an independence referendum in 2006 with 55.5% in favour of splitting from Serbia.
UK - UK and Ireland
Ireland was under the British Empire from established and over time, led to a heavy loss in Irish culture, language and identity. The Irish violently pushed for independence which was granted to them in 1921 when the Anglo-Irish Treaty was signed leading to the establishment of an independent Irish state.
Pakistan - Pakistan and Bangladesh
When the British left the Indian subcontinent, it was divided between the Hindu and Muslim populations and moddern day Bangladesh become the region of East Pakistan. However the populations of West and East Pakistan were extremely different in terms of economy and culture so Bangladesh pushed for independence in a war know as the Liberarion wars and won with India's support and then become the independence country of Bangladesh.
Korea - South Korea and North Korea
After the second World War and the Japanese surrendered, Korea was occupied by the USSR and the USA. The USSR and the USA agreed on a provisional partision of the Korean peninsula, dividing Korea into 2 countries in the North and the South.
