Really one of the best voices ever...power when needed, sensuous and emotional, tender and controlled. The timbre was perfection. In America this man would have his own show, be idolised and revered. And yet, in Britain he sang in holiday camp shows hosted by his friend Bernard Manning, he sang on daytime lunchtime TV shows. We love him there is no question...but he is a very English phenomenon...self effacing and settling for less than he is worth. The singing bus driver...but truly one of the best crooners ever.
