Back in the 50's when I was about 5 years old my sister took me to a well know snake den ( it was in Kentucky and I think the snakes were rattlesnakes or copperheads) and told me to sit down in front of the den and left me there for hours. I remember the large snakes but I don't remember being afraid of the snakes. I still have no fear of snakes but I am still afraid of my older sister.

It's kind of hilarious how people think a corn snake is as dangerous as a king cobra. I'm more concerned for the snakes in this vid, they are very tolerant of that baby's rough handling.

True. Some fears are learned. A pair of twins (age 6 currently) were not afraid of my dog as toddlers. Then their grandmas started coming to watch them when their mother started working again. One grandma is super cool with my dog, the other is so scared she freezes at the mere sight of him, god forbid he barks and he's a freaking pinscher, he's tiny! One of the girls picked up the fear and she'd run and scream when I take the dog out at the same time they happen to go out. The other didn't. She's still cool with him and even waves and comes to greet the doggy but he's scared of children and hides (kind of like the grandma). The same with me- both grandmothers are scared of mice and my mother of reptiles, especially snakes. I don't fear either, heck I want a pet snake when I have the chance to get one. Also, the last time I saw a mouse at our villa, I looked at it and was like "Yo, what are ya doin' on the oven?! Get outta here!" And watched as it ran out of the door.

I wish that more people weren’t scared of snakes. Though there are a lot of extremely dangerous snakes, there’s tons that are harmless and so amazing. I dream of being able to hold and own a snake, but I understand why people are scared of them and I know it can be difficult to overcome.
