WHY Is It So Difficult To Buy A Car

In this video I explain why it's so difficult to buy a car right now and tips on how you can make this process a little easier.

My name is Brandon and I am a used car dealer. I created Car Questions Answered to share the ins and outs of the used car market from my perspective. I share with you updates on car prices, what's happening at the dealer auctions, and what it's like being a dealer. My goal is to share information to help you make the best decisions while buying a car to save you money. I do not want car dealers taking advantage of you.

Thanks for watching and please feel free to leave any comments you may have in the section below!

I emailed a salesman saying I was ready to buy a specific car, however, I didn’t want any dealer add-ons. No paint protection, no upholstery protection, no nitrogen in the tires, etc. He never replied back to me. He literally deleted a lead of a guaranteed sale because I didn’t want to pay for a bunch of extra junk. This is why people aren’t shedding a tear for these new car dealers that are dying now.

instead of nitrogen, they should use helium. so you float over the potholes.

I have yet to find a salesman that hasn't lied, etc. Many car dealers are snakes. GREAT VIDEO!

I had no problem buying a new car. I picked out the Model, went to a Dealer did a test drive and decided on what packages I wanted. Did it all online requesting an OTD price, I noted due to a hearing impairment I would only communicate by e-mail. Living in a large Metro Area I had 6 different Dealers to work with. I ended up with a Dealer about 40 miles from Home and got 20% off MSRP no add on charges or equipment and 0% 36 month financing as well as top dollar for a my trade. Work from your home ground, you cannot win when you are on their turf! The whole process took about 2-3 weeks.

DOC fee at the Toyota dealership in Winston Salem is $1, 695. What a rip-off! I am so glad my cars and my truck are paid off so I won’t ever have to walk back in a dealership.

If you have a car in your yard for sale or on a car lot without a price on it . I will never stop.

Back in the day, there were used car lots in the city I grew up in that actually had the prices on the windshield. I did notice that your car lot still does this. I think this helps people because they don't waste their time asking about cars they can't afford.

I worked at a large Chevrolet dealer back in the 90's started as a porter/cleanup guy and worked my way to shop manager in a couple years. Used to argue with the owner all the time about turning trade-ins on the lot and not sending them to auction. One week I took all the trade-ins we had and had our cleanup crew go thru them, paid the mechanics for an hour to go over the mechanicals, put them all down on the corner of the lot with shoe polished prices on the windshields. We had 11 Friday morning and by 3pm Saturday the last one was rolling out with a happy customer. Each one sold for at least $1200-1500 more than we would have gotten at auction.

I worked for Ford and then Chrysler (in engineering) back in the 1970's. Buying a car as an employee was super pain-free. Select the options, make the order, wait for it to be built, write the check and drive it home. After I left those jobs, all car purchases were struggles to make an easy purchase of a new car. And now it looks like it is even worse. I now drive a 1994 Chev S10 Blazer and hope it lasts for another century.

Use to sell cars 20 years ago - I worked the manager more than the customer. My goal was to turn the deal in an hour so I could get to the next customer.

Just got my gf’s mom a civic yesterday. Advertised online for almost 24k. They wanted out the door over 32k with a 2k dealership fee, $600 floor mats, and a $1200 document fee. We said 28k out the door or we walk. We walked and they called us back within the hour to say we could do 28k. Don’t be afraid to walk

I actually love haggling and making them sweat. Ive had them run at me while leaving saying ok ok. We can do your price. Then they try to get me in finance. I say nope I have a lower interest rate with my bank. I'm leaving, they try to match and I say nope I'd rather use my bank youd have to beat it. Eventually they do but they are not happy campers. Lol.

Hey, I'm actually considering buying a 2024 Honda Civic Hatchback Sport Touring car, it's Honda window sticker is $33, 000! I've been to 2 different dealers & the 1st dealers price out the door price is $34, 435, they have a $1999 ad on sticker plus they only offered $500 for my trade & they gave me $1500 off the sticker price. I did my own Carfax & Kelly Blue Book on my car, both values are very close between $1330 to 1370! 2nd Honda dealers out the door price was $31, 215, NO add on sticker & they offered $1400 for my trade & gave me a $1000 off the sticker price "so far"! The 1st dealer owns 18 different dealership of different brands, the 2nd dealership is a family owned dealer that been in the business since 1985 & only has that one dealership & a lot of the sales, office & etc. are related to each other! You gotta shop around, they are dealers that don't add ad on window stickers, my 2nd dealership saleslady said they never add ad on stickers to their vehicles!

New car dealers should hate you. You should be damn proud of that. Out here among the unwashed, we are proud of you!

I love the dealer negotiation game. My rules never buy on your first visit, make sure you meet the manager, take a laptop and double check all their math. It is great when you tell them and prove they have a bad calculation error.

My issue is dishonesty in advertising. A recent experience was an advertised price of 15.8 but after insisting on hearing about all other fees that would be taxed it was really 18K. What other business operates this way?

Ah, nitrogen! 78% of the air we breathe is nitrogen.

In case you haven't heard, it was predicted they would eventually charge you for air.

I have bought two cars from Car Max and was very happy both times. Both were almost new with 9800 and 13, 400 miles on them respectively. Both were great cars with no problems. I kept one for 6 years with only one minor problem that was fixed under the original factory warranty and I have had the other for 2 totally trouble-free years. Maybe I paid too much, but I did not have to haggle. I was treated well and felt that the buying process was excellent both times. I had arranged credit union finance on both vehicles both times and had no trade-in to muddle the process. I like Car Max.
