Fr Peter, The content of your videos are being so helpful for me and I feel that is touching my husband’s heart too. I personally being trying to find Christ in my life, calling myself a Christian and yet not knowing anything about his traditional Church… heard about different doctrines and complete different philosophies Gnosticism, Buddhism, metaphysics while I was a curious Mormon… (while I was trying to find my spiritual path) Thank you! for putting this together and for the joy to hear Fr. Filipp to come in the help of our empty and weak soul. Thank you for uplifting me and reminding me how wrong I was❤ ☦️

The title in the thumbnail hooked me. Very good choice. I’m hoping, for my investigation into Orthodoxy, this episode lives up to it.

As one who wants to come into the Orthodox faith and out of Reformed protestantism, I will add a comment as someone who has had a life time of protestantism. It was always told to me that salvation is a single event. It is a change of heart, a mystical rebirth of one who is spiritually dead. Once we are saved, we are saved. What protestants refer to as sanctification is something else that comes about by obeying the teachings of Christ and the scriptures. Nothing mystical happens. We are simply more Christ-like and we do Christ-like things because we ARE saved. Doing good works is evidence of salvation and not a progression towards salvation. I was also taught (nothing about Eastern Orthodoxy) but that the alternative is Rome where good works are a way of earning salvation. The notion that theosis is a progession and not some sort of "earning" is hard to get a western mind around. I'm striving, and I'm more able to say more about what Theosis is not rather than what it is. Holy Baptism in the Orthodox church unites me to Christ's body, but salvation continues to develop and mature and grow as a participate in the church, its teachings, and its mysteries in all areas of my life . . . but I'm not earning/paying-for salvation. It is my understanding from Christ's sermon on the mount that good works unaccompanied by a devoted heart wanting to please God are nothing more than empty works. I hope I'm on the right track in my understanding. But, the key difference to me in the disconnect between protestant salvation and orthodox theosis is what I started with. Protestant salvation is a single event EVIDENCED by continuing in good works and not developed by good works.

Everyone is trying to become like God anyway. There is just one difference. Are you doing this under God's will, guidance and protection.. or are you doing it by yourself?

Father, you say without frequent communion we will not make progress. Will those of us who's mission only comes once a month be hindered?
