Stu didn't shape anything. He was their close friend. They needed a bass player so they bought him one and tried to teach him. But he really couldn't play or do anything more than just look good. He decided to stay behind in Germany with his girlfriend and the rest of the band went back home to England. Paul decided to then just take up bass duties because no one else wanted to switch and they couldn't have three guitarists and no bass player. Stuart Sutcliffe was a painter. Not at all a musician or bass player.
