I really appreciate how honest this video is and that you show everything from the beautiful views to the guards and restrictions. I love content like this! Great quality! Looking forward to more videos :)

I loved your honest review. I think I would feel the same. So many videos like this are just filled with gushing presenters but you told it like it is. Thank you!

So this experience is quite different from mine.

I was in Peru in February 2020, just before the pandemic. At the time when I was in Cusco, all the hiking trips to Machu Picchu (the 4-5 day long trips) were not running because of severe flooding. A group of around 10 people had actually died in a landslide just a week or two prior on one of those hiking trips....which was part of the reason why they halted them.

Machu Picchu was still open, but the only way to go there was by vehicle. The train near Agua Calientes was running, but I chose to walk from the start of the station to Agua Calientes, which is about a 10KM walk.

The trip from Cusco to the point where I had to walk was in a Mercedes van thing and because of all the flooding, and generally being there at the low time of year there were only 2 others in the van with me. The severe flooding had actually taken out one of the main bridges along the dirt road, so we had to get out of the van, walk across some temporary man-bridge to the other side of the river, then got in some (seemingly) random dude's car to take us the rest of the way to where the train tracks began. That was actually the worst part for me because I had eaten something my system really disagreed with and I almost shit myself before getting anywhere with a toilet or portapotty lol. It was BAD.

My trip was a 2 night thing with the accommodations included in the price and it was like $245 USD or somewhere around there. Machu Picchu ticket included. The price to take the train was VERY expensive which is why I walked. I also walked from Agua Calientes up the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu starting at around 5:30 AM to get there for opening time, as I didn't want to pay the $25 USD for the bus. It was a challenging but pretty hike.

There also were not that many people at Machu Picchu either. I was able to freely walk around wherever I wanted basically, other than areas that were roped off where no one was allowed to go. But I wasn't required to walk a set path and only go 1 way. I could go wherever.

So, your experience visiting Machu Picchu seems like it will vary drastically depending on the time of year you go there. I personally thought it was worth it, even though the main thing I wanted to do while in Cusco was one of those 5 days hikes up to Machu Picchu...but oh well, maybe one day.

I know you said the trip it wasn’t worth it, but this video is absolutely stunning and one of my favorites!! The time on the train in the bar car with the band, dancing, conversations, singing and the movement of the train would have been sensory overload for me and very anxiety producing. You really didn’t mention it, but I can only imagine what it was like for you.

I can totally understand your take on the entire experience. The video was completely breathtaking and totally worth it for me! 😆In fact, I feel like I should slide you some cash to cover my share. If I were ever to make this trip, I feel like you showed me what to expect. That alone would increase the chance for me to have a great experience. Thank you so much for all your time and work on this!!!

Is Machu Picchu a place you’d like to visit? (or have visited?)

You are 100% allowed to have your own opinion! Sometimes restrictions, and price of stuff makes things really unenjoyable! Also $1000 a night for the hotel is just bonkers!
Thank you for being honest with your video!!! As always your videos are amazing, and make me want to travel the world more!!! Love you, and your channel so much!!! <3

I have to say, I thouroughly enjoyed this vid. One of my faves so far....loved the scenery & the drone footage. Laughed at your tactics & honesty. What a pain it would have been lol. Thank you for filming it for us though!

Hi guys, just want to say Cusco has 2 seasons: wet and dry being the best time to go from May to november.
also, not all the trains have live shows, I have a beautiful peaceful trip in Expedition service without any music 2 weeks ago.
if you dont want/can affort the train you can take a bus to Hidroelectrica and walk 3 hours to Aguas Calientes and take the bus from there as mentioned in this video. If you do not want to take the bus from Aguas Calientes you can walk to Machu picchu, there is a way with stairs. (I took the bus to go to Machu picchu and returned by walking to Aguas Calientes)
I really enjoyed Machu picchu, but the lines and the restrictions are true, I went there 3 times before the pandemic and the rules were differents to this time tho.

Victoria at 2:13...please don't come near me...please...whatever you are 😂And the editing?! The breathtaking overhead/train shots of the scenery overlayed with intimate personal shots...sublime. Could we hear the clarinet on a livestream???? Thanks so much for sneaking us in, totally agree - too many rules and restrictions & crowds ruin places. You made is seem great ♥🔥

Sadly, you can't share that beautiful scenery, plus it's only for an hour. I understand that they need to protect it. I'm glad you share this with us. Can't wait for the next adventure.

I agree with you on liking to explore and just the freedom to go where you want. I had a similar experience at a tourist trap place and it turned me off to going anywhere like that again.lol But I understand they don’t want people to destroy it. But at the same time it takes away from the experience.

Before covid, the restriccions were more relaxed. I think the things you are annoyed about are mostly due to a post covid world. When i was there no in 2012 there were no people who told you what to do.

The reason theye so strict is because people think theyre entitled to do things (Climb, take things, deface things) ...also no offense to you.. take pictures on things etc. They make money from tourism. People go there to embrace the culture, nature.. enjoy the views with out everyone taking pictures or videos. Yes, things are expensive.. that is why people save for vactions.

My former mother in law built a retreat in Cusco, the Sacred Valley. I’ve been a few times. Years ago, Machu Picchu wasn’t quite as touristy. We had private access in the evening. Without lights, we’d wait until our eyes adjusted with the moonlight and have it all to ourselves. It was magical at any cost. Many extraordinary experiences there. Their retreat is beautiful.

I think that your experience depends on your intention to go. In your case, your intention was to record everything for this video, and of course, was not good. I went with the only intention to know that wonder with mi Fionce, to know the culture and take wonderful pictures. Ir was really an amazing experience. However, I do agree, that it is expensive. Everything is expensive, the train, the bus, the entries, etc.

I think it's pretty cool and interesting the fact that you used to play the clarinet, I wonder what happened with that Haha. And the adventure looked like quite the ordeal but I guess that's the issue with touristic places, besides I couldn't handle all the bus riding so I am glad to live the trip through your videos. Thank you very much and I'm eager for the next video as usual.
