The only reason anyone thinks that it's water erosion in the sphinx enclosure is because an MIT trained geologist went there to debunk that water erosion theory and instead confirmed it.. so yeah, it's water erosion..

(Edit; the entire sphinx basin and the statue itself was covered up to its neck in sand when they found it.. in order for it to be sand erosion the sand would have to constantly be running down the areas we see that are eroded.. and as we all know sand doesn't just dissipate into the ground below after it runs down like water does.. the sand would have to be removed constantly in order for the sand hypothesis to work.. so the idea of it being sand erosion has less and less validity once we start examining the sand idea more and more.. )

A lot of people don’t know that there is a second Sphinx directly parallel to it on the other side of the pyramid. Both of them have MASSIVE underground rooms/caverns and temples and also have insanely long underground tunnels that stretch through Egypt connecting to nearly all tombs and temples and pyramids. The ancient Egyptians also wrote about a massive underground city, a catacombs, which was finally discovered recently.
Edit: Also, the ancient Egyptians did not build the Sphinx’s. They found them and built around them, the Sphinx originally had the head of a lion but they changed it to a Pharaoh’s head.

-Egyptians do mention the sphinx, just not that much.
-There were lots of sphinxes back in the day. The sphinx was impressive for its size, but not unique.
-Egyptians didn't write tourism guides, so they rarely had reason to write on the big sphinx because they literally lived next to it.
-It does rain in the nile valley. Not much, but it does.

But most important of all:

-According to this theory, the rain managed to hit and erode the walls while dodging the gargantuan leonine statue above them, which doesn't present comparable signs of water erosion.
