Worthy of a production video - reconstructing the complete delivery of this iconic tone.

Greatest bass tone of all time. And killer playing.

The strings were roundwounds, not flatwounds. Beyond Tony’s great concept and execution, one of the most impressive feats of this recording is how they got the Boss OC-2 pedal to track so well. I’ve read that the signal went through two sequential compressors to get the Boss to track without errors.

Tony Levin.

It's what you become after you turn it up from Tone Ten.

That bass you show at the beginning is awesome. A three of a perfect pair stingray with a tremolo, that's one of a kind right there

Yeah !!! The very first time i heard this song, i throught that the bass sound was a mixture of a real and synth bass, maybe because Peter Gabriel was, and actually is a pioneer of synths and samplers, like Fairlight and Prophet 5 .Also the drums are smashing !!!!
Hey Warren, greetings from Italy and thanks for your nice videos 😘😘🍺🎼

Simply amazing bass track on a simply legendary song.

I'd be interested in knowing more about the concept of using an octave pedal with the bass -- I only ever use mine on guitar but this has me v curious!

Legendary record, producer, engineer and most importantly the legendary Tony Levin…..”legend” has it that Warren’s stingray was secretly used🍻😆🍻

Im not convinced those were flat wound strings. Listen to the mutted hand slide right before he starts playing.

I wore this album out in '89 (took three years to get with it, for some reason.)

The string noise when he slides makes me think he was using round wounds on that fretless instead of flats. Some people do use rounds on fretless basses it's certainly not impossible that he was also

Now that's what I'm talking about. "How'd they get that sound?" Cool. Want more!

Really bizarre irony that arguably his most famous bass line was played with a pick. I don't even know what he looks like using one.

One thing missing. PG himself once commented Tony put a nappy under the strings

Security and So are two killer records from my childhood...

...although, I didn't actually own Security until adulthood; and I still don't have So on CD, though my cassette copy is still in good shape.

Didn't he play that with those weird "funk fingers" (or whatever those finger-attached-drumsticks were called)?

Are you sure it's a chorus? It sounds more like a flange to me 🤨 could be wrong, though. I'm not used to how effects sound on bass.

You show a Musicman Stingray with a humbucking pickup is that "his" Bass or a stock photo ???

Not to mention, that Stingray sound is integral to his tone. Especially considering the on board active EQ.

The EBS OCTABASS is recommended by Tony Levin.
