(Edit for spelling) For me, Edgerunners was hitting ridiculously close to home out the gate.

I was a poor kid, with a single, working mother & I had managed to get into a prestigious school at one point, albeit briefly. I also have severe ADHD & I'm pretty sure David does too, but that's a different thing (fucking leg bounce).

Edgerunners managed to really capture that feeling of social isolation. Because you don't have the time or the at-home support structure to keep up with the other kids, everybody looks down on you. Mixed with the fact that you don't have the connections either... you feel alone even by the teachers.

Now, that's where most of the similarities end for me, but I've never had to pause a show 10 minutes into the first episode just because of how hard I was relating.

Edgerunners is something special.

Edgerunners has blasted its way into my top ten anime, and I'm really glad this franchise is getting the attention and praise it deserves after CDPR's stumbles with the game. The depth and humanity in this story, not to mention the stellar animation on display, will keep it relevant for years to come. Keep it up, king.

the anime also centers around evid having no own purpose or dreams but living for others os they can achieve theirs. This ultimately backfires as he can't see when Lucy's dream changes from going to the moon to just being together, as it never was his own dream he was trying to achieve.

The themes of lossing humanity and thinking that you are someone special, are well executed with the constent upgrades david gets, he also slowly loses his self awereness

Minor thing I wanted to point out, just a fun fact: Cyberpunk's timeline diverges from ours somewhere in the late 80's/early 90's so by the time the 00's, 10's and 20's roll around the world is already crazy cyberpunk with cybernetics, robots, flying cars and brain hacking stuff. The Cyberpunk franchise as in this particular one came out in the 80's which is were the 80's vibe of the franchise originates from. I like alternate timelines like that.
