I remember being told this by someone I super respect, and in implementation discovered that I was reinspired by my previous inspirations. Like getting to hear the same amazing piece for the first time twice.

Balkan folk music has a lot of ornamentation

This lady is always thinking and improving - a hard worker, and a beautiful pianist!
Just came across her - and subscribed!

I play Carnatic violin, an indian style of violin, and we have a very similar concept for decorating our notes! Instead of just playing the note itself, we often slide from other notes to create a very flowy style.

I like the different approach of Indian music! So many cool instruments like the santoor, which is a primitive form of the piano.

This is part of Why I fell in love with middle eastern music-- like Indian music, the decorations and are beautiful and different from what we hear in Western music

Its actually crazy cause things ive written on guitar and solos and i go transpose them on piano( also annoying cause my guitar is a full step down) but i end up doing these runs i wouldnt normally do on piano and theyre great exercises.

WOW... He's really good with that flute instrument! And so are you on the piano, But... as for me... I call it playing the wrong notes, repeatedly, until I land on the "target" note. I'll just say I was decorating. LOL

That piano part sounds a lot like Chopin's Ballade no.4!

Just finding this now, super cool. So this is basically the classic tritone swap progression (bII-V, Neopolitan to Dominant) but continued all thr way through with only augmented six chords and no dominant sevens right? Is semaphore temperanent at play here or sonething else?

Normally we would have something like
Db-F-Ab-B
D-E#-G-B (^, v, vv, -)
C#-E#-G#-Ax (vv, -, ^, v)

So the voice leading is always following one of four steps: 2 down (diatonic resolution from the fifth down to the root), 1 down (enharmonic/comma resultion from the third down to the harmonic seventh), stay (harmonic seventh becomes the third), or 1 up (chromatic from root up to fifth)

Is that how this progression works, or is there more temperament at play? Keen to generalise to other tunings and see what happens

I wonder what Chopin might think about this... :-)

If you plan on "meending", Nahre, you might want to pick up that guitar after all.
