One of my close friends died recently in a motorcycle accident... I'm thankful to have hung out with him one last time literally 3 days before it happened. We sat down, smoked weed and played Tony Hawks Pro. Skater 2 one last time. I don't even smoke weed anymore, but damn if he wasn't one of the type of people who could get you to. I am so thankful to have had such a good memory with him one last time before he left us. I feel like it was on purpose. I'm SO glad that I got to have one more good night with the bro before it happened. It hasn't even been a full month, but damn... it already feels like a lifetime. This song really meant a lot to me as a middle school black kid in Atlanta that skateboarded.
this was back before N.E.R.D. "made skating ok for black ppl" so i got ridiculed daily by many of the other black kids for " trying to be white"
I wasnt ever the type to latch onto lyrics being an EDM kid (also didnt help the argument of my "blackness") but when i played Tony Hawk and i heard these lyrics, it helped me solidify my "F you, i will live the life i want to live and i dont need you to approve" attitude.
