How To Trim & Cut Video Files ~ MPEG Streamclip Tutorial

If you deal with large video files you may find yourself wanting to trim & cut these files before importing into your video editor. I do this a lot and my favorite software to do this is MPEG Streamclip.

This tutorial is for those using Mac.

If you're okay with swearing, I say f'ing fantastic vid! Helped me out a lot. The program is funny because it's 100% unclear how to use it. BTW, using the "edit" drop down menu allow for the IN/OUT and TRIM functions. Windows is CTRL or control T to trim. You example is brilliant and helpful. People who don't know this program are empty souls. It lets you trim a video from your phone, tablet or whatever and you can simply save as without the other export compression that most other programs force you into. This is clean and free.

Good video. I had difficulties understanding how to use this program, but this video helped. Unfortunately, it doesn't exactly work for very precise cuts. It must cut on keyframes and unfortunately doesn't do "Smartmode" cuts.

Is it possible to batch export multiple segments? (Example: 2:00 to 5:00 save as file name 01...from 6:30 to 7:45 save as file name 02...etc, etc, etc. / Walk away and come back to 7 or 8 files created instead of doing a “Save As” one at a time. )

You don't mention how to crop, (remove edges of video, there seems to be a lot of confusion between crop and cut) I have the program and it shows no crop in the menus ... but says in the help file it crops, no instructions on how to in the help file and everything on the web does not give enough info.
