We all typically turn to Google whenever we have a burning question but when it comes to how to treat acne, the millions of answers you’ll find will often be more of a hindrance than a help. There is SO much information out there that is often conflicting or factually incorrect.

In today’s video, I wanted to answer the most searched for questions on how to handle breakouts. From how to use a spot cream to whether salicylic acid is a good spot treatment, there is still a lot of confusion on the best way to treat breakouts.

I hope that you’ll find these answers helpful but do let me know in the comments if you have any more queries. If you’re unsure how to get the most out of your current routine, head to my Routine Finder tool to get your personalised Dr Sam System and sign up for my newsletter to get your exclusive Acne Solved cheat sheet.

As always thank you so much for watching and for all your support!

Gentle cleanse before and after workouts I find helpful to, I use to not do before, but I definitely see a difference by just even a quick rinse or swine of toner before spf

I signed up for Dr. Sam’s routine and products. So excited! In America 🇺🇸 I burned my skin off a few months ago. Didn’t know what I was doing. Hoping my skin will heal 🤞

so i have a question: My skin looks wet when I apply SPF. Is it still protecting me?

I use two serums ( niacinamide serum from the inkey list and neoglucosamine serum from neutrogena) and Cerave Cream.

I put a lot of the inkey list serum and wait 10 mins before applying the next serum. and after that, I apply my cerave cream and wait 30 minutes before putting on my spf, which is bioderma photoderm spot spf50, which is a water resistant sunscreen and is very moisturizing.

my skin looks very dewy and wet and i don't care about it as soon as i'm getting the protection.

Thank you for your video! I'm using differin at PM and azelaic acid in AM or PM and my skin has improved soo much! I was hoping to try differin 0.3 for more benefits but apparently doesn't exist in the UK. Do you know in what countries is available? When a spot comes out however, nothing seems to help.. It takes days to calm down and will leave a red mark. I've found that just moisturising them and applying vaseline reduces the inflammation and makes then heal faster.

Hi Dr. Sam! Thank you so much for these ☺️ I have two more questions I can’t seem to find a collective answer to:
1. Should I apply spot treatment (benzoyl peroxide) as the last step after moisturizer or before?
2. Is benzoyl peroxide safe to use during the day? I heard from another youtube derm that benzoyl peroxide works by causing free radicals on the skin and is therefore dangerous under the sun during the day.

Thank you!

How common is purging? And if I purge from retinol, does that mean I'll purge with salicylic acid?

While I feel like this was very helpful, I also feel it centered around spot treatments and managing active breakouts. But what about once we’ve managed breakouts and now just would like to focus on anti-aging while still preventing future breakouts? Can you make, I suppose, a follow-up, of how to build a preventative routine while focusing on anti-aging as well?
