What is Omicron Variant? Why Countries Are Freaking Out?

When Delta variant of COVID-19 hit the world, it killed hundreds of thousands of people. It had ONLY 13 mutations or 13 changes in its DNA sequence. However, the Omicron variant has too many mutations, scientists have found around 50 mutations so far.

Some of these mutations impact the transmissibility while other can make it more evasive in humans.

Countries are mainly worried about 2 things right now
1. Will the Omicron variant infect vaccinated people, by evading the immunity developed by them?
2. What would be the rate and gravitas of infection?
