What is omicron? What to know about new COVID variant

Omicron is already in other countries, it simply was spotted first in South Africa. So a travel ban in only southern countries alone when it didn’t even originate in any of them makes zero sense to me.

Ok, so now that 61 Dutch nationals have been confirmed Omicron positive, will the Netherlands also be included in the travel ban?
Or only the African countries should be kept away?

It's South Africa who should be applauded for discovering the new strain and to alert the world that this has been identified before other countries have done so. By restricting travel to and from South Africa will not guarantee that this variant actually came from Botswana.

Incidentally Botswana is not South Africa for those who don't know the difference.

They still puzzling over the origin of Covid from Wohan China but don't give credit to the Medical experts in South Africa by reacting to this discovery.

Whilst hope that the vaccines will counter this strain must still be proved but it could also be a blessing in disguise

if symtoms are less severe. This could lead to herd immunity so I hear.

South Africa says that It found this new variant because they do alot of testing in their country, but they are not the Origin of the new variant, so it could have started in Europe, or even Asia, we are not sure where because not every country tests for covid ??
