Quick Tied Quilt for Beginners|Chambray Blues Sewing|Jessica Cramer

Quilting can be intimidating for beginner sewists. The easiest way to put a quilt together is by tieing the layers together with yarn. I use wool yarn for durability, doubled for strength. Select a large eyed needle thread the yarn through it, then sew a single stitch leaving 2” thread tails to tie the layers together and trim as needed. Keep your ties in the center of each quilt square for a neat look, about 6” apart.

When you are done typing the square knot, put a good drop of frey check on the knot. It dries clear and helps keep the knot from coming apart. The gal was using yarn to tie the knot. I use embroidery thread most often.

My quilt is so heavy and I’m having problems sewing it on my regular machine so would this work? I’m using the quilted fabric as my backing and I used interfacing on my quilt top to stabilize it

If you use a surgeon's knot (Google, SUPER easy) as the second knot, it'll stay tied better.
