I've Owned My Nissan 370z For A Year....And I'm Struggling

Yeah please tell me what you think about my situation, my 2012 Nissan 370z is a little too expensive and requires way too much work to get it to be a genuinely capable track car. I just feel like I'm at the point in which I have to decide if I go full modification on an expensive car and it doesn't feel like a great idea.

Bro said “the oil cooler was making my oil cool so I took it off and now the oil gets hot when I’m beating on it”

I wish you young guys would realize every car is not meant for track racing this is awesome sports car for highway but not for track .u can’t spend 5grand and expect to have a 100.000 track car stop the madness

You don’t get a 370z for track use unless you full race car( gutted, suspension work etc…)
As a street/ occasionally mountain car it’s amazing !!!!

I am Japanese, so I can appreciate it for it's heritage like Mustang and 911 has. It was big part of why I bought it. It has a sexy design, heritage & how much I can blend into every day situation. This car, at least in Japan, is mainly bought by empty nesters; they can finally drive something other than minivans. But not M3 or AMG because neighbor will judge you. Z's been build by people before internet, when get a sports car and take your girl out was a must. Drift King says Skyline is for serious driver and Fairlady Z is more like a date car. It's probably a car to keep for a while and grow on you, making memories, rather than excitement straight out of purchase. I have same dilemma but I always conclude to keep it. My wife actually have R58 MINI, honestly, that car is more fun (quiet voice lol). I agree with NC2 miata, I like her smile(^▽^)/

When I had mine a decade ago, I watched a lot of people pour money into them. They are good cars, a lot of people do cool things with them, and with enough money they can be great -- but they were always in this niche spot of never being popular enough to really drive the aftermarket to make things cheaper. That, and over time more and more problems were discovered with the platform, and a lot of them were time consuming or expensive to solve.

I loved mine. Was one of my favorite cars I've ever owned. But it kinda feels like it exists in this niche where it's either a fun daily that can be showy on the street, or a gutted track weapon that requires more love than other cars that can get you similar amounts of fast/fun.

My 370z is not perfect. But it's right in so many other ways it makes up for it. I didn't buy mine to track it. I bought it to have a decent power, head turner. Most importantly my head. I love the way it looks. Puts a smile on my face every time I drive it. No regerts

Struggling is for newbies, which you are. Racing any motorsport is NOT cheap. If you had an idea that it was cheap to start you are misinformed. You still have much to learn. Just be humble with it. You don't get a Z and think you become a track god overnight. You need a few years to learn a great deal of info about the Z and how to handle yourself and vehicle at the track. Complain less, learn more.

it's a GT; not a track car. mod until you're satisfied with performance. The track version is NISMO. I owned one and loved it. Thinking about buying again.

I have daily drive my Z for the past 4 years and 80, 000 miles and it’s amazing for what it is. My wife’s Mustang GT is faster but not as fun to drive. I know people with BRZ\FRZ/E-86s that have grenaded the engines and are $13000 into rebuild or have done K swaps

The GT-R is a track car. 370z is for the street.

I have had a lot of cars over the years and my 2014 370Z Touring Coupe is by far my favorite car that I have ever owned. To me it's the perfect sports car. Mine is completely stock except the 10mm lowering kit from Nissan. Even though the suspension is really stiff, it is still a comfortable car to drive over long distances. I have driven mine 2, 000 miles on a trip and it was very comfortable. And after ten years, my car still looks, smells, and drives like it is brand new. I only have 20, 000 miles on it after ten years. It still looks like it rolled off the showroom floor, actually better because I am a detailer too and the first thing I did was a three stage polish and full detail on it, inside and out, right when I got it home. It's only been garage kept since new. I really want to upgrade to the new Toyota Supra but I just can't justify it because the 370Z is paid for and I certainly wouldn't get what I want for it on a trade in, and probably wouldn't get near what it's worth on a private sale so it makes more practical sense to keep it and continue to enjoy it. For a person looking for some of the best "bang for the buck" so to speak for a sports car, look no further than the 370Z. It's a wonderful sports car and a lot of fun to drive, even in the stock configuration. Plenty of useable power and very good on the street. Not so good in bad weather however. You really have to be on your A-game if you are going to use this in a wintery weather climate. I personally don't even drive mine in bad weather unless I get caught in it while out on a drive. I have never driven it in the snow. I live in Colorado so I only get to use it for about 8 months out of the year. Otherwise, it stays in the garage. The 370Z can be a handful in inexperienced hands and can quickly ruin your day if you are not very careful in bad weather. VERY careful. The back end will kick out on you faster than Chuck Norris could give you a karate chop! I've even had it kick out on me in a parking lot going at a very low speed on a perfectly clear day during the summer! If there was one word of advice I would give to a potential future owner of a 370Z, just respect the driving dynamics and don't be driving the car wildly or YOU WILL regret it, no doubt about it. And it would probably be a very expensive mistake! Once you understand that dynamic of the car, it's a fantastic and fun sports car to own.

Should have put a thermostatic sandwich plate with the oil cooler. Second, you should have gone for a 34 row.

Theres options for CSC replacements. It doesn’t cost thousands.

We already mentioned replacing the top hat with a billet top hat. You would need to top off every session, but you won’t starve.

Literally any car you’re going to dump thousands for a track day car. Even a Miata.

who buys these cars in Michigan? winter, shit roads, etc. Can't use it 6 months? throwing thousands away on mods, insurance, etc. I guess if you live at home and someone is paying your room and board, but otherwise....

Experiencing different cars is the funnest part of the journey and youll always have a couple favourties that you regret getting rid of. For me out of all my cars its been the TSX and I cant find a clean first gen one if my life depended on it (maybe one day).

sounds like a budget issue not the car, all track cars should have the mods your after at high end, and if you were after stock street/track is literally what the nismo is not the base not sure about your research but the 2013+ comes with a slightly bigger oil cooler might be worth ordering that, but personaly i would still go bigger and have a thermo plate.

I'm confused. You buy a car that is first and foremost designed for the road and then complain that it's not an out and out track monster. Strange.

I got a 12 Civic Si that I bought with the intent to modify, and enjoy. Turns out a year almost later.... can't afford to build it the way I want, owning 2 cars is costing me too much money right now, and I am lacking maintenance on both, and now the civic is up for sale... lol

I love the civic, doesn't burn any oil, it shreds on the mountain, I did some stuff to it. But I've reverted it back to stock (minus leaving the wheels and coils on) and I am just driving it until it sells and I will fix up my LS400 and continue to daily that for a while. I've since learned it makes no sense for me to own a car I want to modify when I can't sustainably afford it, and I am just going to get myself into trouble owning something sporty like that. I love to cruise from point A to B in my LS400, it's more practical and will pay itself off in the long run after all the oil leaks are fixed. I want something small and 4x4 again in the future anyways.

As someone that has built a track biased z that also needs to play double duty on the street. I can tell you, the choice in parts and maintenance is critical. A thermostatic plate is a must for an oil cooler. Additionally, the fuel starve issue is a maintenance/repair item. And should have been addressed at the first symptom. The saddle tank is inherently flawed for fuel starve but not until you are down under 1/4 tank. The issue you are running into is a cracked sending unit plate, most likely.

370z is very comfortable on a twisty road/Highway. I havent tracked mine but from what I’ve seen, you can have a good time in these with just a few performance modifications. It’s old to where it might not be able to compete with a few mods but for fun, I’d say it has a lot going for it.
