Innovative Poncelet Water Wheel 2017

preview_player
Показать описание

The initial testing of the elevation control hydraulics of our 7.5 kW prototype Poncelet waterwheel. The wheel is 3 meters in diameter, and 1 meter wide. It employs a 5:1 speed increasing belt drive. The PM generator produces maximum power at 50 RPM.

Please check out my channel. I've added more video's including one where I take the wheel out of the water for maintenance.

In addition, I have started a "GoFundMe" page for further research into increasing water wheel efficiencies and cost reductions. Any financial support would be much appreciated.

If you have a good counter balance, you can make it float easily with 2 smaller pontons on the sides of the wheel

This is so brilliant. I don't even have a house on a water source yet, but now that's all I will be looking for.

Congratulations on your elegant solution for the waterwheel.

Wouldn't it be nice if everyone had a creek in their backyard. The biggest energy crisis is being caused by the current illegitimate regime

Simple and elegant use of a very old technology.

I am not certain but this type of water wheel may have been pumping water in ancient Babylon.

My works too. Used Avasva handbooks and build it with no problems.

Hello Nering Industries, very nice work, I love it, could you inform me about the Generator rating and specifications? look forward to hearing from you

thanks for posting. this is a pretty good start on a shore-sited run of the river waterwheel. suggest you consider making about ten changes to this installation. the moment arm of the force at the pedestal should be controlled. pedestal should be a close to the 'wheel as possible. 'wheel support fork should be modified to resist flexing. the design of the 'wheel vanes is inefficient for this application. the vanes should have minimal curvature and be mounted in a, nearly, radial orientation. are parts of the rotating mechanism bearing a load ALL the time. the correct way to take power off a waterwheel, for a hydroelectric application, is to mount a sprocket that is just large enough to achieve a first output stage of one to three step-up (sprocket/roller chain). additional pulley/belt stages can be used to further increase output rpm. loaded speed of a waterwheel should be around twenty rpm. on what is the 7.5 kW claim based. is a ten hp motor being used as an alternator. if so, wrong. first, the amount of energy available at the radius of the 'wheel should be accurately estimated. then crunch the numbers. shop for a converted automotive alternator (pma). cheers

is there an existing design but scaled down drastically?

You should make it with floats so that it is self regulating for depth 😎

Is there any gearbox increasing the RPM at the generator? (other than the Belt pulleys having a large ratio diff between the 2)

Good job. Please can I have the specifications of the wheel. Such as the diameter of the wheel, the diameter of the pulley, the power of the generation head, also the water velocity.... Thanks soo much

Super nice.looks like you really put lot of thought and time.Good job. I was wondering if you worry about debris or logs hitting your water wheel? Also what are you powering?

A fantastic experiment and a great video. I would be curious if you have done measurements RPM vs depth of wheel flood?

I love this appropriation of poncelet's brilliance. Nicely done!!!!
Is 7.5kw the theoretical maximum output of this wheel? Also what is the approx FPS of the stream it is installed in.

Hm, having to go out an manually raise and lower the wheel so it gets the ideal amount of water seems like a chore and a constant necessity of getting the best from it. Is there a way to automate the adjustment?

The wheel is not in the water very far. Water doesn't appear to be slowed down so no electricity is being produced in this video? The video doesn't report current output. This kind of wheel application produces the least amount of electricity out of all the different types available. A complicated hydrolic wheel lowering device, metal arm, cement base, all adds up to the kind of thing I wouldn't make. I would consider a wider wheel that goes deeper into the water on a double pontoon float and only a rope to a tree is needed to keep it in place.
