The Chinese are ones making gold medal count a thing. No one cared in the past. Oh and if you are really wondering which country truly is home to most medals think about all athletes who live and train in USA and only represent a different\ country at Olympics. Lots of Europeans living in USA permanently . Heck even Americans born and raised in USA like Swedish gold medal pole vaulter. Couple of French gold medalists live in USA as well. All focus on country is stupid. Focus on athletes as it really doesn’t matter where they live. Oh unless it’s China then it’s a super big deal to their Communist propaganda 😂

If you add up and put together the results of the EU countries, you come up with a result of 88 medals for the sole gold medals ! That literaly crushes the Chinese (36) and the US (33) so far (and it won’t change very much till tomorrow anyway).
Let it be reminded that the EU population is roughly a third of China’s (EU : 450.000.000 ; China : 1.400.000.000).
That only shows one thing : you don’t need to be a dictatorial and brutal country – and a cheating one in addition to that – like China is, to be efficient. By the way this goes too for Russia today, as it was already true for the former USSR.
