OnePlus 8 Pro Review: Two Months with a True Flagship

It's not a flagship killer. It's a killer flagship. There was much gnashing of teeth over price increases this year, and OnePlus took a lot of flack for the 8 Pro. Yet, when we really break this phone down, it wins a LOT of fights against top premium brands, while also maintaining a budget advantage. This is premium territory, so we have to grade it by that price. Let's see where this phone succeeds!

Pretty sure you're the only reviewer I've seen that consistently talks about the radio situation....THAT STUFF MATTERS

The fact that your review came 2 months after the launch really helps. I don't think any review mentioned about HEVC as it recently came, that stuff matters.

14:22 - This! Just using a phone for a week can NEVER make anyone, let alone a reviewer acclimatize to a new phone. There's a learning curve, however small it might be. But more importantly, there's the baggage of the previous phone. This makes "reviewing" the new device objectively impossible. I think reviewers are doing a great disservice to consumers these days.

This reverse wireless charging trend I can see dying out like curved edges (have started to) lol.

Man you got me so fired up, I just fired bunch of reviewers from my youtube subscribers feed! Thank you for such a realistic down to earth content delivery.

As always the most objective and in depth review you can find. And I might add as a OP8P user that this phone really is a beast, but now in way more control.
A Danish in depth photo blind test, against Sammy G20+, Huawei P40P, Sony ii, iPhone 11P, and the Motorola edge+ where 15.000 people were voting, it actually almost did a tie with Sammy in the top, with the P40P only a hair behind. I think OnePlus nailed it, and I look forward to see the testing of the Nord budget model.

With a headphone jack and a flat screen this phone would easily covince my wallet.

It is an amazing to listen to your reviews Juan, very objective as a matter of fact you made me love the phone even though my heart it's with the new Xperia 1 II.

Amazing job man!

Great review, I am almost convinced nobody makes real shit anymore but seeing this work gives me hope, it's sad your channel doesn't have that many subscribers and views I guess it's a sign of the times people simply don't understand or appreciate real quality work anymore and fall for cheap flashy fast fluff pieces.

Yeah, I think I'm gonna go back to OnePlus next year or the year after that. My problem with it is that it seems it still takes absolutely shit portrait mode shots. The blur effect itself is very good, but the picture quality takes a HUGE hit according to the samples I've seen. It's very disappointing for me personally because almost all the pictures I take with my Pixel 2 XL are in portrait mode because I just love the effect too much. I guess I'll have to wait until OnePlus improves this.

A very good point about no outright winner when people could shop different things at different level

I truly love and appreciate that you review devices AFTER the first week shininess is over. You're bang on about the reviewer bias vs. the guy at home dropping a grand on a phone. I expect at least three years from my Note 10+, maybe more. My old OnePlus 3 is still a solid daily driver for my daughter. I've even offered to upgrade it for her, and she just likes it too much. And it's 4 years old now.

The technology has reached a tipping point. There are fewer and fewer reasons to upgrade a one to two year old flagship for most people, like there used to be. Processor changes are really small advances vs. revolutionary leaps ahead. Display tech has leveled out, with refresh rates still REALLY being the domain of hard core tech enthusiasts. Average users don't care. And as much as everyone's on about 5G, the reality is unless you live in a major city where you MIGHT get access to that signal, LTE is going to be here for many, many years to come. In my area, they're still working on LTE rollouts! 5G is probably 10 years away from being real or usable here.

Thanks for keepin' it real!

Don’t you ever change your style of review. You’re so underrated, you deserve way more subscribers. You’re my favourite channel to watch smartphone reviews.

The 8 pro can charge at up to 15W (5V 3A) when plugged into a USB-PD charger. And supports 10W on Qi EPP (Extended Power Profile) chargers (they kind used by LG, Sony, and the Pixel 4)

Very good point Juan, even me an old school OnePlus fan am starting to realise that if you want the latest and greatest you gotta pay. Sure, the OnePlus One was great but not actually the best in any category back in the day and had lots of missing features.

Excellent review! Most reviewers should listen to you. Thank you from a Pixel 2 XL user that will upgrade to this magnificent phone once the iN2025 version is available again. 😊
