What I noticed is that stereotypical Barbie didn’t want Ken was because Gloria never thought Barbie needed Ken in the first place

The movie is aggressively clever with its source material. Beautifully shot, brilliantly acted, brutally metacontextual, and lovingly crafted.

As an older woman, the women on the bench was a perfect moment and it made me cry.

I’m glad they kept the woman on the bench. It was by far my favourite scene in the movie, just hit me in the heart different :)

That moment with Barbie and the old lady on the bench was so adorable, Ann Roth made the most out of her brief cameo!

I saw the move the other day, totally loved it! I was especially fond of it's sense for meta humour and self awareness. I was NOT expecting Mattel themselves to have a role in it! And Will Ferell as it's fictional CEO truly delivered! 😂

You missed the one where the 4 girls at the school table have the same 4 names as the BRATZ dolls who don't like barbie lol

Barbie just made a BILLION dollars.

What an amazing feat for Margot, Greta and for all involved with making this wonderful movie 🙌

I love seeing these young, creative, successful women like Greta taking over Hollywood. It’s about time.

I think that's what people are missing. Greta didn't create one barbie in the movie. All the Barbies were reference to actual Barbies, include the one that grew breasts. Almost everything in the movie is a reference to something Mattel did. This movie is as well (maybe even better) researched to the biopic Openheimer.

Will Ferrell has practically made a career in playing a businessman antagonist in TWO movies based on a popular toy line so far.

I love that Margot and Greta use “Yay space!” with each other.

I can't believe the bench scene almost got cut! That was such a beautiful moment. How they managed to get us from laughing about Ken discovering patriarchy to crying over Barbie discovering human emotions in a matter of seconds will never stop amazing me!

“Does that mean Allan was the baby’s father?”

Yes, Allan was part of the Happy Family line, along with Midge, their son Ryan, the two babies Nikki and Cassandra (Midge was a pregnant doll twice), and a set of grandparents.

It was always super funny to me that parents thought it promoted teen pregnancy when Midge was intended to be a little bit older than Barbie (I think she was supposed to be 21 and Barbie was 19?), and she had been married to Allan for a few years at that point.

One Barbie they forgot to put in the movie was Butterfly Art Barbie. I bought it in 1998. It had tattoos and it came with temporary tattoos you can wear. it was referred to as "Tramp Stamp Barbie" and was pulled off of shelves quickly.

im so glad they didnt cut that scene with the woman on the bench :’) im in my late twenties, but even as a super young teen i feared the thought of getting old. bc when youre young as long as you’re relatively healthy ur not gonna die unless an accident happens. but in my mind when you’re old it can just… happen. the body can just give up. and idk, i dont wanna die so i guess thats the fear. but its also superficial. society does not treat older women kindly. so me, growing up with barbies and adoring them and i still have them, seeing that scene did something for me. instantly brought me to tears.

This is by far one of the best movies I've seen in a very long time. It is absolutely beautifully written
