Calling them firemen and plumbers actually adds to their legacy. Working a part time job, or in Elgin Baylor’s case serving in the army on the weekends and playing during the week, is a testament to his greatness. Guys today were complain about being stuck in a bubble, even though it’s a 5 star hotel with pools and various activities. Those old dudes would work part time, take the train to the game and score 30 pts. What they did is way more impressive compared to todays athlete when you really break it down.

Its weird how in other sports like baseball they romanticize the past players but in basketball they just seem to trash them

I mean bob cousy had no other player before him to pattern his game from. So he essentially created his style of play, and was truly an innovator.

Thinking you are better than a great from an old era because of how much the game had evolved, is like a modern-day top physicists thinking they are smarter than Newton or Einstein because of how much science has evolved

Does anyone stop to think of what the forearms and grip strength of Plumbers and Construction workers were BEFORE POWER TOOLS when you had to screw everything in by hand, drive nail through concrete and saw 2 by 4's with hand? I grew up with those dudes. Solid

Best thing he did for their legacy: many young people went to look at old videos of Cousy and got their minds blown at his passes.

Comparing eras is dumb. Instead of that, imagine this, JJ redick being born in the same era as cousy, west and maravich. Do you think he will break thier ankles or maybe score 50 on them? I guess not.

He would learn the same way they learned basketball, but JJ will stay an above average player like how he is when he was playing. But those legends will still be legends.

Put a young Cousy in todays era, and give him all the travel, training, dietary and medical attention todays players get, and he would still be Bob Cousy.

Put JJ Reddick in the 50s/60s with their technology, and he’d still be JJ Reddick. 🤷‍♂️👍😂

Bob Cousy in his prime would have EMBARRASSED JJ on the court.

THEY DO THE SAME THING TO BABE RUTH! Bob Cousy was so crafty, given the different rules… that was the META of the playstyles of the game. It transformed, don’t downplay a great

Bob Cousy was the best ball handler of all time. And he didn’t palm the ball or carry the ball like they do today when he dribbled the ball. They are way too lax with that concept today.

One of magic Johnson's favorite players was the great Houdini! He actually emulated his game on the court and you can see the similarities. I don't think anyone and I mean anyone in the future NBA will ever emulate JJ...

I promise I’m respectful to Cousy and all of the older player’s legacy..

That reply was SO disingenuous. Firemen and plumbers was a mention to how basketball players today are ONLY about playing ball. Back then, folks even in the NFL had side jobs. You can’t compare it. Be real. Cousy versus Chris Paul? Really?
