I fully agree with what you said about it being overdiagnosed in children, and underdiagnosed in adults. Personally, while I struggled a lot to pay attention in school, I was able to learn on my own, so we never suspected I could have any sort of "learning disability" if that's what you want to call ADD. Now that I'm an adult and have more responsibilities, my lack of focus has made more impact on my life, and I've realized that it's worth getting tested for as an adult finally. Unfortunately, I've been getting doubt from people close to me solely because I didn't get diagnosed as a kid and did well in school. Specifically, my dad basically told me I was just being a hypochondriac when I told him I was going to get tested. It's more of an annoyance than anything else to hear that, but I'd still rather he at least was open to the idea. Oh well. We'll see when get to my appointment.

Great advice overall. Thank you.

I already know I have ADHD (got diagnosed as a kid cause I was failing the 6th grade lol, could never focus on anything) but the diagnosis utility was for my IEP, got me longer test time/less distractions/more accommodations as a kid so I didn’t fail lol

I've had a handful of diagnosis in my life and now they are back to the first ADHD. They call it practicing medicine for a reason. Advice is great to get but so hard to do. Eliminating poisonous people from your life and business relations helps the most.

The schools always blame the children for disappointing the system when in fact the system is disappointing some pretty brilliant children. Lecture educations is a huge disappointment to a large population.

This is a great show! I’m also a non believer in labels. However, I did have my son assessed back when he was 5. He was diagnosed high functioning autism. I had to get assessed so he can receive the help he needed to get through the day at school. But I have never told him about it so he doesn’t start using it as an excuse.
Now, my other son age 7, is having great difficulties with his focus, impulsiveness, attention span, finishing tasks etc... something I noticed long ago and tried to push it as far as I could.and again I’ll need to get the assessment to confirm his adhd. Unfortunately, we either label or we r damned to for go the help required by our school systems. Thanks for information tho! Il starting tonight 🤞🏽

I wish YT had more content like this and less of what we actually get.

I want to know because I do not feel complete I’m poor and so I’ve never been able to go to a doctor or I think I would had been diagnosed as a kid. I want to know because this pain I’m feeling is awful and if I can take something to help it I need to or my depression will win. That is why I want to know.

To get help for problems through ndis in Australia you have to have a diagnosis. No diagnosis no help.

Relating to my son, #2 is a HUGE challenge ever since I brought him home at 19 months (International Adoption). I always say, his nutrition probably plays a part with the recent ADHD diagnosis.

I'm pretty sure both me and my son have it. It does make life difficult but in a way its a super power more than a disability. Ive never been diagnosed with anything other than depression and anxiety - like you said they are a symptom not a cause. It's super frustrating to live in a world that needs you to be super precise about organisation and time keeping, and also super frustrating when people can't keep up with the way your mind is going. It's torture to have to sit still and quiet! My lad is home educated now, and I work for myself, so we can switch out and move when we need to. We both have one thing we can totally focus on. Me, its my art, the only thing I can sit still for. Him, video games, but he squirms and wriggles throughout. I'm glad we have each other and that we are alike. When i was younger I used to take amphetamines. Some people took cannabis to relax but amphetamines helped me relax and focus. Now I know that is exactly what they give adhd kids, but I was unaware of the condition then. I've not taken them for years though. I've got a high iq but office jobs used to drive me insane. I was happier as a bartender, a dancer - traditional low pay jobs but that I could move my body all day. I was slightly happier as a teacher, that was almost a good fit, but, the timekeeping thing made me anxious. Over the years I've found my own (non drug) coping mechanisms that are exactly as you describe, though I need to walk for an hour a day to be settled in the evenings. If not, I'm as squirmy and jiggly as my son. I'm in two minds whether to push for a formal diagnosis. In the UK here it's hard to get mental health support unless youre a danger to yourself or others, or, you have money to go privately. Sometimes I wish I had a diagnosis when I was a kid, it might have avoided years of drug abuse for me, and feeling like a square peg in a round hole. But back then, kids were either good or naughty and that was that. I don't know. To diagnose or not to diagnose, that is the question.

My younger brother got diagnosed with ADHD as a kid. My daughter has GDD and Autism. I always have felt different and have struggled in life. I also have sensory issues. Been talking to a therapist about possible autism but she said its not autism and it's ADHD.

I want to know so I can get treatment. I don't like it when my doctors won't say what I have. I have had to diagnose myself and have the doctor verify it. People feel better when they have a name for what is going on with them. I had to figure out what my dog had and verify it with the vet because he didn't name it. That allowed me to research it.

Well, you should add that this is a result of a under developed prefrontal cortex as well as deficiencies on specific neurotransmitters that depending on the level of those you may need a “little more” than some exercise and a to-do list. Just saying.

This is so helpful! Your chanelhas changed so much for me, thanks for all you do. We just learned my husband has this, but as his wife I struggle to find balance with him. Could you do a video on how to help the spouse to someone with ADHD? I feel resources are focused on the ADHD person helping themselves, but those who are close to them struggle too. Your advice would be great! ❤️

Well first of all if I find out I have ADHD or not I can approach the situation in a certain way. If I have ADHD and don't know because I didn't get a diagnosis, how would I understand that I need to do something to stop, alleviate, reduce symptoms or whatever.

Only a person who has adhd can understand that these symptoms don't do justice to the "identification" of this condition. It's the "feeling" which you experience along with the symptoms. Not nice to have adhd.
