Ash Trevino and the Rise of Lolcow Content

Countless video essays have been made about Ash Trevino, but does this content accomplish anything? I discuss how content featuring so-called lolcows, including Trevino, is on the rise and the implications that come along with it.

A lot of these people have intellectual disabilities, are goaded into bad behavior, then that behavior is displayed again online to further the system. It's sickening.

huh I always joked adding a critique of capitalism can change a thrashy Drama vid into a classy Breadtube essay

I really like how you came here with 10 minutes video which is more insightful than 2 hours long commentary slop that is being recommended.

Lol cows to me, coincidence with the rise of anti-fandoms. People who delight in the misfortune and misery of people who are online, some of whom are clearly going through it and breaking down. But this is all entertainment to them. And it's messed up

before finding out i was autistic i was a full blown alcoholic being encouraged to < keep partying > by enablers. seeing Josh Block pretty much pushed into that same existance is so sad. its painful to realize that people only have you around to clown on and watch you be < hilarious > even if its you just being yourself. its never wholesome or cute and i hope he gets away.

Chris Chan is one of these people who's pretty much got a target printed on their face. My family works with autistic young adults in a day program and there are clients there that are more independent and higher functioning than Chris. Chris has done some horrible things in their life but to see people actively trying to get them to do more and more ludicrous acts for the sake of internet laughs is disgusting.

5:20 It makes me think of the carnival culture in like 1800 to early 1900. They were also just trying to make a living, while making someone else into a beast instead of a human.

"and my hands will be too soapy from scrubbing plates to click a new video" had to dry off my hands from dishes to post this comment, king

I stopped watching lolcow content for my own well-being when I realized it was less about laughing at someone, and more about eliciting anger and disgust from viewers. We laugh about Ash Trevino being an "inmate hopper" but it's no longer funny when you learn about the things she has said and done to her daughters.

I came across this video as someone who was very much so enmeshed in drama content creators. This take Is the healthiest take I've heard on the internet in a long while and actually brought me to question the content displayed onto me. Thank yoh

Yess!! It always bothered me when she wouldn’t disappear from my feed. She’s messy, so what? I really don’t need a deep dive on her life.

I saw someone dressed as Chris Chan at a convention once, it was funny then but the more I think about it the weirder it got. These are real people that we are treating as entertainment and whose lives we are actively destroying as a result whether directly or not

I love how gracefully this guy gesticulates

If someone is in so much pain that they put up with the harassment of 'pretending to have a disorder', they probably still need help, they just have no idea what kind. I don't see why anyone would choose that just for clout. The 'DID faker' lolcows are obviously all suffering in some way, or they wouldn't do what they do.

Funny (not funny) thing is I stopped watching lolcow/reading lolcow threads because even though I thought of myself as a neutral 'anthropologist' type observer, I met someone who had been effected by one of the more malicious threads where they start conjuring felony allegations out of no where, and that caused me to kind of realize: "Hey, even if I'm passively reading this, I'm still passively reading about a stranger that if I had passed them in a walmart, I wouldn't give two shits about."

But THEN I started dating a guy who was really into following Cyraxx to the point where when we'd hang out, he'd put on some Cyraxx related videos on. If you don't know, Chance is severely inbred and disabled. He's done a lot of horrible shit. Like A Lot. And I pointed out one day like, "hey, isn't this a little weird to keep tabs on people like this? Even if they are fascinating?" And he got weirdly aggressive and defensive. "No, cause they're bad people who've gotten away with bad things and keeping a tab on them keeps them from doing more bad things" was basically what he said. Me, being more of a people pleaser at the time, relented. Now I'm stuck in the addiction cycle of watching this slop shit long after we broke up. Because on one hand, I am invested to some degree in some of these in a different way now-- I want Josh to get help and one day hear he's stopped uploading cause he's in a facility (like one for rehab or assisted living) or something. I wanna hear Ash Travino's kids are somewhere safer now, and she's in jail or something. But at the same time, I know it's none of my fucking business and back to the walmart part: it shouldn't be. And yet, that same concern keeps pulling me back and I end up indirectly feeding the very monster I'm disgusted by.

I've been slowly weaning myself by watching old content I love, like morbid curiosities and hearing weird history facts.

I have never heard of Ash but I have definately observed it with other "main characters" of the internet. I think you might be the first youtuber to hit the nail on the head with this.

instant subscribe. 100% agree. I'm so tired of drama youtube. or drama disguised as a video essay. I'll watch a video essay about how some famous celeb is problematic or going fashy or whatever, but when random small time video essayists want to target some random small time content creator, thats just drama. Most people don't know this terrible person they're talking about and all they are doing is giving them more views and making them look catty. wanna punch up? fine. not fine with all the punching down though.

the way they treated this woman made me think she was so funny, cooky, eccentric internet character, not an actual criminal... learning about her story just sent shivers down my spine
