I think you can love multiple people at once. Similar to loving multiple kids, parents, siblings, and friends. I don’t think romantic love suddenly becomes different than other types of love. However, Love isn’t the most important thing in a romantic relationship. You should ask yourself whether you both have the same views on marriage, religion, child rearing, money, where you want to live, have families that get along, etc. Usually, one person is more compatible than the other and that’s the one you choose.

There is a difference between having love for someone and being in love with someone. Being in love with someone happens over time and involves getting to know the person, complete with flaws and differences. Having love for someone like Tamera said, is usually infatuation. Infatuation is like fools gold. It mimics the real thing.
