Travel into the brain to see what happens when you fall in love and explore how the brain responds to heartbreak.

--

Love is often described as heartwarming, heart-wrenching, or even heartbreaking— and your brain is responsible for all these feelings. The journey from first spark to the last tear is guided by a symphony of neurochemicals and brain systems. Shannon Odell explores what happens in your brain when you fall in love, how it responds to a relationship, and how it reacts to a breakup.

Lesson by Shannon Odell, directed by Biljana Labović.

So getting over a breakup is just the brain's struggle in forgetting the old source of dopamine and finding new source of dopamine. Fascinating.

I hope having an understanding of how my brain functions can help me be more logical in future, and avoid toxic relationships.

This was an award-winning animated short on its own. TedEd, you always raise your own bar.

Love is like a rose; It's both happy and painful at the same time.

Not a single ted-ed video is lesser than the other. They keep improving and teaching something new every time. ❤️

as a 19 year old who just entered stage 1 for the first time, I just hatefully love this video for its honesty
PS: hoping that it lasts though

EDIT: Its been 3 months and while our love was on an exponential growth a few days ago the first tremors creeped into the relationship, something I was theoretically but not emotionally prepared for. I wonder what the future holds...

EDIT2: its been a year together and we had a sweet little anniversary celebration. I don't think I've ever matured as much as I've matured in this year ever before in my life.
Everytime, I feel I've reached the pinnacle of my love for her and boy does is just keep surging ahead faster. She's no longer a date, she's family <3.

I feel really terrible after my first heartbreak during adolescence, but I find it rewarding to learn all the faults I made...
Still hurtful to think back about the memories, but they're all in the past. I should let them forever be the past...

I love how you guys are not only focusing on the scientific side of everything, but now also exploring the complexity of human emotions, nature, and how we navigate through life. It is important to gain knowledge about the physical world. At the same time, shining some light onto human behaviors, what make us who we are and our ways of thinking is, from my point of view, at equal significance. Really hope to see more videos like this. Keep up the good work guys. Regards.

Did I seriously have to find this video after going through infatuation, compassionate love, and heartbreak? This would have been really helpful back in February when we first confessed feelings for each other.

But even though the heartbreak hurt so much, I would do it all over again.

Absolutely adore the changes in animation style through the video and color palette, along with the story used to educate ^ ^
Very informational and beautifully made

Being a 20 year old and feeling the emotional pain of heartbreak is agonizing. It's the hardest truth of life "you may love a person but the other person doesn't share the same emotion" accept it and find the one who loves you and accept you the way you are .

Imagine being a research participant for this and the doc just says "Alright, so now we're going to look at some pictures of your ex."

I had a whirlwind relationship with a girl. It was as passionate as humanly possible. We shunned the rest of the world as we loved and quarreled. Family included.

We broke up after 2 years. it was excruciating to be without her, but a blanket of toxic selfishness coated our once loving relationship.

5 years later. I met her on a chance encounter and it was an absolute whirlwind like before.Because of the sins of the past, It was more challenging this time around, but we managed to pull through.

Our time apart made me realize that I have always loved her. Even when we were apart, i still loved her. Selfishness just got in the way.

I just Hope that everyone gets the same chance as we did.
