I enjoyed the movie. I think Oddity has been one of my favorite horror movies of the year.

Personally I am gassed for all these indie arty horror movies to be coming out this year 2024 feels like the year of the weird movies that otherwise would not have gotten mainstream attention eg Immaculate Cuckoo Longlegs and Blink Twice coming out later towards the end of this month I love it though because it feels like horror is having a renaissance and it looks like Hollywood is taking heed that audiences are interested and demanding this kind of content and are interested in giving it a wider platform

Oddity was a pleasant surprise. I realized I was scared while watching this film in the cinema. It is the first time a felt like that in a long time.

Well since you mentioned Oddities, I’d have to say Oddity was my favorite horror movie of the year!

I’d have to say that ‘Exuma’ would have to be my favorite, so far.

I think this is my favorite review of yours so far! You put a lot of things into words that I couldn’t as far as why the movie didn’t entirely click for me, and I completely agreed with you!

I really liked it! We have been getting some really good indie horror films the last few years. The insane time loop thing they did was highly effective, and the sound design was brilliant! I liked the vibe, felt like a movie out of the 80s.

The difference in this being a good movie and what could have been an amazing movie was the last twenty or so minutes. It could have been nightmarish, but a shootout? Seemed so out of place and took the scare right out of it for me.

I loved this movie. I felt that we were told by Dan Stevens exactly what and why. It is all there. He is a conservationist trying to preserve a species.

I can’t wait to see this, with movies like this you will always get haters, it’s the odd A24 art film that people won’t forget. And I personally love those

Edit: I loved it, so damn weird. Makes me want to move to Germany, which i think isn’t the intention

This gave me so much of the feelings like Longlegs or even I Saw the TV Glow. Promising, but ultimately, disappointing. Too much questions or questionable stuff even after the movies. These art house horror movies require too much thinking by the audience for my liking.

Maybe The First Omen is the best? Abigail was quite fun; is that a horror movie? It’s some comedy and action too? Late Night With The Devil was really fun. Is that horror? The last two are not the horror in the traditional sense?

What bothered me was the 17 yo daughter looked way older than the stepmom who has a 8yo child

I do think its possible to have the questions you raise answered by the film, but they are not teligraphed super blatantly
The time dilation/debilitation effect is shown in multiple instances to be triggered by the monsters vocal chords, this is why they cant speak normally, and why the close up shot of the pulsing larynx every time the effect occurs, wich you can clearly tell after getting enough close up clear looks at the broodmother is waring the same clothes. Twords the end of the movie when the detective and dan stevens character are suffering from the little girls sound, you can see that its less of an actual time dilation effect and more of a perseption effect that keeps them in place but experiancing in their head the repeated last minute or so.
As for dan stevens motivations, while a bit thin he claims multiple times to be a conservationist and that the land they are on is a nature preserve. It does seem strange he would willfully violate peoples autonemy for a oarasitic species, but even tho it would have been noce to get a more fleshed out reasoning i do think it at least satisfies the criteria to make him a simewhat compelling villian character with interesting but thin angle of motivation for his villianous actions

Watched this and enjoyed it. Not scary, but entertaining nonetheless

Finally saw this and went in blind as i heard it was the best way and so i also avoided reviews. The pacing was good in terms of building the dread .. and i enjoyed rhe characters but the actual reasons and the lore just didn't grab me as it should. For me, Strange Darling wins the e most thrilling of the year so far, followed by Longlegs

Streetsmart and aware? I think we were watching different movies. But I agree it felt much longer than only an an hour and a forty minutes.

In my opinion she doesn't even begin to pass for a 17 year old. I thought she was mid 30s until reading a plot synopsis.
