Don't forget the Record from sleep is way faster on the Action 3 compared to the GoPro 11. To me it's a huge advantage to be able to record almost instantaneously.

I never have issues with gopro overheating in motion. First of all this is action camera and you need to have some speed over ground to cool down the camera. I have 9 Black and 11 mini. When I use black 9 on tripod - yes it's overheating under the sun, but in motion - never

Yeah, DJI doesn't charge your for access to basic settings like changing the interval on timelapse videos. GoPro can go to hell.

I was tempted to buy one of these but found endless posts on some of them coming brand new with focus issues. Its a pretty huge issue in terms of video quality on the videos and photos ive seen. I opted to go with the go pro in the end. Didnt want to take the risk of the camera turning up with fuzzy focus

What happened to the GoPro review? My GP11 overheats constantly at 4k30 yet my new DJI hasn't overheated at all. My GP11 also freezes, and loses footage. Say's it's recording but locks up somewhere in the middle.

I have a different perspective on the pricing. I think it’s not “let’s price against GP, ” but we screwed up and got greedy and priced A2 like Apple prices iphones more than laptops as they can. At $519, DJI didn’t get traction and when they discounted it to $359, they sold more so they learned that pricing it at $329, they will sell more A3’s and that’s the sweet spot entry pricing.

But if you want to compare apples-2-apples, then I’m not sure it’s cheaper. 8-bit vs 10-bit, how much would you pay for that. And the argument of they will come out in 2mos can be said about GP will come out with GP12 in 12mos with better specs. Right now, it’s only 8 vs 10. So how much would you pay for 10bit? $100 more?

And the horizon 360 lock in all shooting modes for GP11 except slomo 120 and only in linear view lens. How much is that worth as A3 can only do that in 2.7K?

And back to the bit depth of 10-bit is different with DR (dynamic range) which there’s enough video out there showing GP is ahead here even with the GP10 vs A2. Since A3 is a repackaged A2, I don’t see adding 10-bit will improve the DR. It will help with having no banding in the skies but not help recover blown out highlights or improving shadows in dark backgrounds.

Don’t get me wrong, I am agnostic with these brands and will get all of them, A3, GP11, and RS 360 1” but we have to call a spade a spade.

If I need better DR, sharpness and details, I’m going for the GP11.

If I need better UI/UX, longer battery life, indoor studio long form shooting and good thermal management, water sports without a housing under 16m, more pleasing colors (personal taste), then I’m going for the A3.

If I want lowlight, IQ, and first person POV and reframing, then the RS 360 1”.

Just depends on what tool is needed.

This comparison of brands against one another is fun but each person need to see what works for their needs, workflow, and budget rather than knock on each brand for what it wasn’t design for. Part at fault is these action cam brands need to listen more to what their customers want and/or communicate better what the design was intended for.

Comparing these action cams for lowlight is like comparing smartphones against mirrorless cams and saying it’s too digital or not good enough. Action cams will struggle in lowlight with less than 1” sensors and not fast enough fixed apertures.

For lowlight, go for the RS 360 1”, ZV1, P2 or hopefully P3 soon.

For overheating, stop using it for long form when action cams don’t have proper thermal designs or designed in small form factors and waterproof with nowhere for heat to release. Otherwise use a $20-$30 cooling fan and shoot all day.

Anyhow, enjoy all the great options we have and go out to shoot. Can’t go wrong with any of the offerings being released these days

I agree 110%, I use several of both on my channel and the Action 3 just WORKS, the GoPro 11 continues to be so unreliable.

Great review, but unless I missed it, did you talk about video quality, which is my number one when it comes to cameras. I guess it's superb with both? But also, chapters let the viewer skip to where they want go?

Solid review - i just recently sold my bridge camera along with my gopro max - i wasnt sure if i wanted to keep the max or not so i just decided to move everything on and figured id decide what i wanted to buy in the meantime - now i did like the gopro max it was decent and i think a better camera than the insta360 one-r which was its rival... but im debating if i should just buy a dji osmo action 3 or gp11 instead of a 360 cam, tempted to try an insta360 one-x2 or one-x3... i dont think i would buy a one-r because they have had so many problems with overheating i just think its a poor design fault.

What would you do?

The Action 3 does seem like the more practical camera, but the Hero 11 seems to have better images quality. So it comes down to what is more important to your needs. Great video, and thanks for sharing.

What are your thoughts on the Action 2 vs the Action 3? I have the 2 and Im on the fence whether to get the 3...mainly the battery life and how everything is all in the 3 vs the 2 you need the attachment for the SD card. And its takes forever to transfer the videos from the camera to the SD card module....but the compactiblity of the 2 is awesome

I have the DJI Pocket 2 (use for my walk vids), Sony a7c (night events), Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra 512GB, and GoPro Hero 8 Black (waterslide vids). Might get this to replace my GoPro 8, and it will help with my 4k walk videos too because the Pocket 2 can only record up to 60 minutes in 4k30fps before the battery dies. I'm a New Zealand YouTuber will be visiting Sydney for 11 nights in December and over NYE. Thanks for sharing this vid.
