I use g board mainly for the fast delete button where you slide from the delete button to the left and it deletes as much as you want but I'll give this function a try.

BTW, most major keyboards allow the cursor control from the spacebar. I also like the 'backspace dragging' on Gboard that allows you to swipe from delete to highlight sets of words all of once.

I have used that feature since the S22Ultra if I am not mistaken
