Do EV’s wear out tires and roads?

I often get people telling me that EVs are impractical because they’re so heavy that they wear out tires, and even roads, much faster than gas cars. Hey, it’s true that EVs are heavier than equivalent gas cars, but… I think it’s worth noting that a Tesla Model Y SUV, the best selling car in the world, is 22% lighter than a Ford F-150 pickup truck, the best selling pickup in the world. Yet, I have never heard anyone complain about issues of tire or road wear when it comes to pickup trucks… even though, in 2021, one in every four vehicles purchased in Canada was a pickup truck.

Pickup trucks can use larger wider tires to spread out weight. Evs need to have a narrow contact patch to keep mileage in check which means special tires with stronger sidewalls which put more pressure onto a smaller area of the road.

Am I right? Let me know if you’ve ever heard anyone complain about the fact that pickup trucks must be wearing out our tire supply and our roads faster.
