Justin Bieber Says Half His Face Is Paralyzed

Justin Bieber says he’s hopeful his facial paralysis will improve after revealing he has Ramsay Hunt Syndrome. Bieber announced he’s postponing his North America Justice World Tour dates as he works to overcome the rare virus. Los Angeles doctor Amit Kochar who specializes in facial nerve disorders says with aggressive antiviral treatment Bieber will hopefully be back on stage soon. It's estimated only 10 out of 100,000 people develop Ramsay Hunt Syndrome.

It's scary how suddenly these kinds of physical conditions appear and drastically affect someone's life. Hope he recovers. Never make fun of people with such issues, it can happen to anyone.

As someone with serious nerve damage, it is horrific to wake up to find that you can’t use part of your body anymore. One day I suddenly lost the use of my right arm, which healed over months thankfully.

As unfortunate as this is for him, I’m glad he’s opening up about it. Him speaking about this illness and educating his fans brings more light to the chronic illness community, the same way Selena Gomez’s lupus diagnosis was able to. As someone who suffers from multiple chronic illnesses I truly appreciate it when celebrities talk about theirs. 🙂

My sister and late grandmother has this. It was also back then interchangeably used with Bells Palsy which is a similar but different disease. Unfortunately for my sister the symptoms return every 2 or 3 years and she has an autoimmune flare up at the same time which requires her to be hospitalised cos sores appear all over her body. Super lucky when she first started to have facial paralysis straight away I realised that it looked similar to what my grandma had (My grandmother unfortunately never got treatment and so half of her face was permanently drooped). My mum got both steroids and antivirals to treat my sis, luckily 95% of her face is symmetrical, just one tiny corner of her mouth is a fraction droopier but it's really hard to see.

This happened to my stepdaughter a year ago, she was in her early twenties and we were all scared that it would stay forever. Thankfully, with some good meds and also physiotherapy (because the facial nerves and muscles needed to relearn how to move again) she got better, tho some times it's still hard for her to smile or laugh for a long period of time. Hopefully Justin Bieber will recover! Fingers crossed!

As someone who is in recovery sober for 5 years and was never a fan of Justin I always rooted and still do for the guy, it’s not fair that because he’s successful people minimize the stuff you can go through. Pain and trauma is relative and this is coming from someone who was homeless on my 13th birthday and was really poor as a child and endured sexual, physical and mental abuse for years. I think he had his childhood taken from him just as I did and I wish him well.

I freak out when my eye twitches from straining it too much. Can't imagine the levels of stress I'd be having if half my face were to paralyse. I wish and pray that he makes a full recovery.

This syndrome happened to my sister last year. And she totally cured with in a month by proper medicine and facial therapy. Hope JB will be alright soon.
