I've found the most important chess skill is not hanging 6 queens by move 7. I seem to win a lot more games that way

The biggest trick is to not end up Ina situation where your king could be taken but it has nowhere to move.

This is essentially the imbalances described in IM Silman's "How to Reassess your Chess". Really good book that goes into extensive detail on how to understand and use the imbalances in chess.
