Our surroundings influence our opportunities and well-being more than we imagine. Many aspects of our environment are outside of our realm of control. We know that individuals living in food deserts have less access to fresh or affordable foods. We must acknowledge that living in a supportive nutritional environment is a privilege that not everyone has access to.

However, we usually have some flexibility within our micro-environment that can shift our relationship with nutrition. For example, our homes!

Which foods do you keep in your home? Of those foods, which are more convenient to reach, or less time consuming to eat?

Small changes in the home can have a profound impact on our likelihood to choose certain foods. If you find yourself gravitating towards convenience and packaged foods in moments of hunger, consider moving some of the more nutritious foods to easier to reach places. You might also need to 'meal prep' your snacks (clean and chop some vegetables, wash and store your grapes in the refrigerator, etc) to make them as easy and fast to grab as store bought snacks.

There are many small ways to be creative and change your environment in an impactful way.
