Timecode is a big one as well. If you’ve ever edited a dialogue scene without timecode vs with timecode it makes a lot of sense why they would require it

Can people stop using this “Netflix approved” bs ! They will buy it even if it was filmed with a potato !! “Netflix Approved” cameras are only if they’re funding an original project

That is not how this works. Netflix only has these guidelines for certain Netflix original projects, almost of which will have a budget big enough to make it more practical to rent most of the cameras. Having one camera your own won’t make a big difference. Besides these cameras are only listed because they can be used, not because they should be.

One soft ceiling that the FX3 breaks which the a7SIII doesn't, is the barrier for entry and features it offers up front kind of ask more of the user. a7SIII attracts a more consumer crowd who are likely not investing in higher grade production.

The assumed mentality of the user base is very different too. FX3 is designed for professional video work, whereas the a7SII has more or less been popularised by over-produced fuck boy travel vlogs, with heavy orange and teal grades and light leak transitions. Not that you can't fuck around and make hype beast content on the FX3, but it's less of an expectation for the FX brand — So I can see why Netflix might want to disqualify the general a7S user base at face value also. It's a less dramatic difference than showing up to a shoot with an iPhone or an Alexa, but keeps some of the over-confident weekend warriors from clogging up their inbox.😂

Are you telling me Netflix has to touch your raw files?... Why.. do they get to do that with everything that is on it?

That’s a bit of reverse thinking. If you are a great filmmaker you could film on a cheap camera, and when Netflix asks you to do a project you can just show that work because it’s not about the camera but the craft &!creativity.
Then, when you have the gig you just go to a rental company and get whatever Netflix approved setup you want.

Thos says more about Neflix lax quality standards than the quality of your camera

I never got the netflix requirements. They have so many old movies on there already filmed on ancient cameras 😮

Actually, if your film good. Even you film with bad camera, they still buy it. Netflix approved is bull shit

the only reason netflix and other companies approve mirrorless/DSLR cameras is cause they frankly are next to useless on any decently funded project. personally I would never shoot a TV show or movie with anything that can't support some kind of RAW recording and sufficient I/O

I think Netflix is least interested in that if they ever have contact with you :D

Lord does not decide if you want to make a film for Netflix or not.
