The Philippine Navy (PN) is eyeing to acquire eight Israeli Shipyard Ltd Shaldag-class patrol boats to replace the “PKMs” it is using for maritime interdiction operations.

PKM is short for “patrol killer medium” a term used to describe medium-sized naval craft tasked for patrol missions.

In an interview with reporters on Wednesday night, PN flag-officer-in-command Vice Admiral Robert Empedrad said this procurement project, which is worth PHP10 billion, was already approved by President Rodrigo R. Duterte during a recent command conference.

This craft is very functional assets to a country with lots of islands(archipelago).
I wish AUSTAL PHILIPPINES can produce the same and just buy the ISRAELI missile defense system.
Somewhere along the line, the Philippines should start developing her own ships and military armaments to survive and defend her sovereignty.

Stop this buying spree, its insane. Its unsustainable procurements since you are not a rich country. You will bankrupt your nation and leave nothing to the social development and infrastructures of the nation.
