Fabrizio Romano has a shock signing for Tottenham Hotspur on Deadline Day in the transfer window in the shape of Real Betis and United States of America international Johnny Cardoso.

The 22-year-old USA star is a midfielder and is part of a deal which will help Spurs sell Giovani Lo Celso - but who is Johnny Cardoso and what will he bring to Tottenham Hotspur?

The likes of Fabrizio Romano, David Ornstein, Alasdair Gold, Paul O Keefe and Gianluca Di Marzio will be all over Spurs' activity but it is rumoured that all of Tottenham's business is done!

João Lucas "Johnny" de Souza Cardoso (born September 20, 2001) is an American professional soccer player who plays as a midfielder for La Liga club Real Betis and the United States national team, but was born in Brazil.

🚨⚪️ EXCLUSIVE: Tottenham are closing in on deal to agree on priority option to sign Johnny Cardoso from Real Betis in the future!

#THFC will also buy a percentage on future sale in case they decide against signing him. 🧨🇺🇸

⚪️🟢 It’s part of the deal for Gio Lo Celso to Betis.

Tottenham Hotspur have not been quite as active in the transfer window and with transfers this summer - only signing Archie Gray from Leeds United and Yang Min-hyuk from Gangwon FC, Dominic Solanke from Bournemouth and Wilson Odobert from Burnley - but over the last few years under Ange Postecoglou Spurs have been building a top youth side.

With the help of Daniel Levy, Scott Munn, Johan Lange and Fabio Paratici Spurs have lowered the average age of the squad to 25.

The Premier League is heating up with Arsenal, Aston Villa, Brentford, Brighton and Hove Albion, Bournemouth, Chelsea, Crystal Palace, Everton, Fulham, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, Newcastle United, Nottingham Forest, Tottenham, West Ham United and Wolves aka Wolverhampton Wanderers, Ipswich Town, Southampton and Leicester City.

The former Celtic, Yokohama F. Marinos, Brisbane Roar and Melbourne Victory coach Ange Postecoglou and his Tottenham squad include Guglielmo Vicario, Pedro Porro, Cristian Romero, Destiny Udogie, Emerson Royal, Yves Bissouma, Dejan Kulusevski, Brennan Johnson, Son Heung-Min (손흥민) Richarlison, Pape Matar Sarr, Jamie Donley, Alfie Dorrington, Ashley Phillips, Rodrigo Bentancur, Sergio Reguilon, Djed Spence, Ryan Sessegnon, Micky van de Ven, Timo Werner, Radu Dragusin, James Maddison and Dane Scarlett, Manor Solomon, Alejo Veliz, Giovani Lo Celso, Ben Davies, Fraser Forster, Brandon Austin, Alfie Whiteman, Lucas Bergvall, Mikey Moore, Archie Gray, Yang Min-hyuk, Wilson Odobert, Dominic Solanke and Luka Vuskovic.

To make it clear....we did not sign him...we only have the 1st option if we want to sign him in the future.

Its a sweetener in a deal where Betis wasn't going to be able to meet our valuation for Gio, we get a buy option for us or a sell on clause if we don't trigger it. Clever way to get a bit extra value is gio goes for 6ish m..

Cardoso is class. I’m an American so I’ve watched a ton of him. Great time of it in Brazil and looks like a great tactical fit. Ngl, didn’t know he was in our radar and that our scouts thought highly of him lol

This sounds like a way around the impasse that Betis wanted Lo Celso for free and Spurs wouldn't budge on demanding a fee. So as I see it, this is Lo Celso to Betis for nothing now, but in exchange either Spurs get this guy for whatever price they agree with Betis or they get a percentage of any future sale as an in lieu payment for Lo Celso's signature.

I was always skeptical of him as a US fan, but every time he's played for us he's done well, he's always done well at club level too. I almost only ever hear positive things about him, so if he lives up to the hype then I'm all for it!

Sounds like a way around the Ange clause that he gets final say on signings. Could be just a novel way for Betis to bring the Lo Celso price down. Could also be a way of building a portfolio of future players options for spurs? Is there a value included if the player gets injured?

Option? PR I never see him in a Spurs shirt!

The way i see it we got money for Lo Celso but also off our wage structure! Am i right in saying we have 2 players coming in January that we did deals for in this window that maybe has been overlooked?

What a waste of time, its like going to Tesco at Easter and even if the easter egs are all sold they will keep one back under the counter for me, but if i already got one from Sainsbury's we get a discount or part refund on a future purchase

We literally didn't sign him..We have an option to buy him in the future for around 25-30 Million.

Watched some video's, he actually looks like a very good, well-rounded defensive midfielder. Good defensively and attacked minded. Box to box in some ways . Prepared to run at players when he gets in forward positions. Good age. Maybe an under the radar talent.

It’s not a signing ...we will get % of future sales for the player if/when he is sold or we will get the first option to buy him in the future

Levy bought a stake in a player that plays for another club.
He isn’t a Spurs player.

Confused to why we wanna part buy him in case we change our minds to get a sell on fee rather than getting him now! 🤦🏾
