The football was absolutely horrendous and the luck involved to get us into finals was incredible but in the final you play the best and your luck runs out playing negative football doesn't help.

Bellingham's tournament is a myth. He was knackered, petulant, spent a lot of the time complaining, holding onto the ball far too long overall, not impacting play as often as he could, either slowing the game down or trying to be Maradona at every occasion. He had that one overhead kick, but should have really been whipped off 20 mins before that.

As an Aussie we had Ange at 2014 world cup and played the Dutch Spain and Chile. We were overmatched but didn't lay down. We played football. The momentum the football played won us the 2015 Asian cup. A team like England should have played football.

Somebody no one is talking about is Gordon. He came on vs Slovenia and looked absolutely amazing. Called Southgate out for his BS then never saw the pitch again. Only natural LW on the team and doesn’t play all tournament made no sense. Looking for a partner for Rice when you have a great box to box midfielder in Jude yet insist on him being a playmaker at CAM or LM. Gordon, Palmer, Watkins all should have started for England based on form and tournament play yet all saw the bench for most of it. Southgate has shown he doesn’t have the gall to say hey we got to change, showed it years with Maguire as well. Hell if Maguire was healthy we wouldn’t have even seen Guehi who has been the best defender in the tournament imo, saving Stones numerous times and playing out of the back phenomenally well.

So Gareth has gone…. Who do you want to see next ?

Also. Tom forgot to give the answer of his question…. It’s Fernando Torres 😂🎉

I don't get the argument about "look at what Southgate has achieved, got England to x-finals". How do we know that another manager couldn't have done the same given the same squad and competition at the time, or similarly could have actually taken England all the way in any or all of those?!

All we can do is look at Southgate's decision making and tactics. He just got so many things wrong. He didn't look at any data or rationale or adapt to any oppositions style of play. He just had his favourites and stubbornly stuck to the same formation and people again and again. I will say he got his defence set up well but he has no idea what he is doing with the rest of the team. I don't want such a stubborn leader. With Foden, Kane and Bellingham essentially playing on top of each other most games we were effectively playing with 2 men down...brilliant managing /s

So for me, Southgate out.

The one problem with Pickford was his distribution. One of the major problems we had as a team was pumping the ball straight to the opposition.

The stat about Kane having ONE touch in the opposition’s box in BOTH finals is insanely damming. We scored 3 goals in the QF, SF, and Final after he was subbed out. He definitely stifled the attack in this tournament by constantly dropping deep and wanting to be quarterback. So frustrating.

Also alarming how many times they had to go behind in games to wake up and go for it. And then retreating again once equalizing / going one goal ahead. They did that against Slovakia. Went 2-1 ahead and then sat back and invited Slovakia to attack again and they had a really good chance to equalize the game in the 2nd half of extra time. All 7 games were just moments and living dangerously and riding our luck.

This loss hits less hard than the last final, most people aren't even that bothered because it was 1. Expected and 2. Deserved.

As a neutral I thought Watto was brilliant this episode. Good coverage of the EUROs overall as well, can't wait for next season already.

Is anyone going to mention that he's hardly beaten any good teams? No? Not going to mention that we were on top and had the momentum until 1-1 and then decided to sit back? Come on, man.

Southgate didnt learned nothing after the final against Italy, once they scored the equaliser against Spain, they had all the momentum and they were on top of the game and then sat back again... It was a bad decision back against Italy and again the same mistake against Spain...

i agree with the feeling that the tournament didn’t feel that great or special, not as it used to. and i think both the euros and copa america needed to lead MUCH more into this marketing strategy:
“The Legends of the Era’s Last Hurrahs”
think about it, Cristiano Ronaldo, Luka Modric, Toni Kroos, Thomas Müller, Lionel Messi, Angel DiMaria, James Rodriguez, , , , all of these Legends have either got a lot older, said they were going to retire after the tournament, or have retired after the tournament, or have had a massive resurgence during this tournament in their older years. could’ve been a marketing nostalgia dream.

We contained them first half, Rodri went off injured and for some unknown reason, we saw fit to change formation, Foden pushed up and suddenly they had the space to move through midfield in numbers and could make mincemeat of our defence, our attacking strategy was long ball up to an injured Kane. We absolutely miss managed the game when we had the personnel to win it, criminal
