Hi Everyone!

My name is Dan, and I am a veterinarian. In this video I am going to walk you through how a veterinarian will vaccinate a dog. vaccines are given to dogs every few weeks when they are puppies. When a dog is an adult, vaccines are either given every year or every 2 to 3 years depending on the vaccine.

The core vaccines are Rabies and DA2PP or the distemper Parvo vaccine as most people refer to it as. These vaccines are given either once a year or every 2 to 3 years in the adult dog.

The vaccine we are giving today is the DA2PP vaccine. This vaccine has two bottles to draw from. Once the bottles have been mixed, the vaccine is ready. Changing the needle allows for a sharper needle to prevent any unneeded pain from the vaccine.

The skin should be tinted up with fingers to provide a little triangle of skin. The needle is then advanced into the fat or SQ. The needle should not advance into the muscle, because this will hurt and the vaccine is meant to be delivered into the fat.

Disclaimer: Always consult with your veterinarian regarding all your pet's medical needs. This video does not replace veterinary care.

I'm reaching out because I need some advice. My dog Max is a purebred Belgian Malinois. Every time I take him to the vet they have to sedate him to see him or do anything to him. Even for a $25 vaccine the bill winds up costing me $600 per year just to get him immunizations. There's gotta be a better way; I'm going through a second martial separation and the dog helps me through a lot of it and takes my mind off of things; I just don't know what else to do. Today I took him to a pop up tent vaccination location, the charge for the shot was cheap. Max did better around other dogs and people, but when they tried to put the needle in him he flipped out muzzled up and would not allow the needle to go in. I just moved out of my home and now I'm afraid of losing Max because he can't stay here since the price to get him caught up on shots is so steep for my to afford on a teachers salary. Any advice?

Hey Doc! I know dog breeders in the USA can purchase and administer vaccines to their litters themselves, but can administer all vaccines? In Canada we have to take our animals to a vet for everything. Covid caused all vets around to start running bankers hours once. Pre covid all the vets in the surrounding area would take turns being on call for emergencies, but once thing went back to normal they decided to stick with bankers hours and not to take emergencies or be on call. The closest emergency clinic is over 2 hours away. We are in serious need of vets and for the laws surrounding animal care to change. Pets and animals are going unvaccinated and untreated bc the vets that are around are not taking on new clients and haven’t been since before and some just after covid started. We all know the massive influx of ppl getting pets during covid and it’s not hard to deduce the number that have never seen a vet.
I always enjoy your videos and content!
Thanks Doc!

Advisory: Do not use the same load for all weight classes. This is an ongoing problem in the industry that must be addressed.
