Life is Better in Brazil (For Me) From Toronto | 🇨🇦

I thought it would be a good idea to do a walk around downtown Toronto to talk about why I am definitely sure of my decision to move to Brazil was absolutely the right one. I chose one of the coldest days thus far in Toronto but managed to show around a bit of the city as well as to discuss many of the reasons that the two countries differ when it comes to lifestyle.

Interesting perspective. I’m Brazilian and I have lived in Toronto for about 6 years. I ended up deciding that I wasn’t for me anymore for very similar reasons. I have lived my whole life in Brazil prior to that except one year that I’ve spent in NC in the US as an exchange student and I found people in Toronto to be very aloof, distant and very unwilling to connect, much more so than in the US (might be related to southern culture). As a Brazilian that was a dealbreaker, at least to me. I insisted on staying for a long time, but I ended up being very depressed not only by that, but also by the insane consumerism and work culture. I still love Canada, but I found that having security and material prosperity does not make my life meaningful and fulfilled to the degree I experience here in Brazil. I was difficult to have my whole expectations shattered from idealizing Canada as well as the western way of life for so long, but at the same time I have a total new appreciation for where I was born and my country as a whole, even though it has it’s problems. For a lot of Brazilians it’s very difficult to understand someone moving from Canada to Brazil, but I can definitely relate to your experience. And it totally agree it comes down to what you value in life. Canada is world renowned and recognized as one of the best places in the world consistently through rankings and economic indicators, but I don’t think you can base your happiness on numbers and statistics. This is not to say Canada isn’t a good place to live, because it clearly is. You should check out cities in the South of Brazil at some point. I’m from the state of Santa Catarina and I personally think it’s one of the best places to be in Brazil. Maybe not for that rich culture you’ll find in places like Rio, but to me it’s a very good balance between what I had in Canada (a little better IDH indicators compared to the rest of Brazil, also a lot safer than Rio) and the good parts of Brazilian culture. Good luck with your journey in Brazil.

The perfect thing would be to live in Brazil working remotely with earnings in dollar. With that you could live very well here.

I'm a young Brazilian widow from an English partner, I'm seriously thinking in going back for the exact reasons you said. I think there are millions thinking similarly. Brazil is indeed a eden garden on Earth.

One thing you notice when someone like you does a walking tour in a big North American city - most people are walking alone or sitting in cafes alone. In Brazil it's the opposite. People are usually walking with a friend, family member, coworker, etc. People in North America just want to be alone but we don't realize how bad that is for us mentally and spiritually.

This is one of the most sincere videos I have ever watched about the pros and cons of living in Brazil/Canada. There are some reasons Canadians and people from other countries have been pointing out which I wasn't able to realize by myself - I guess I was losing the big picture. Well, I'm flattered you have found your place in Brazil, I have been seeing my country in a different perspective lately. Wish you the best.

Bro u said EVERYTHING I had in my mind about living here in Canada! I mean no disrespect but I reeeeally wanna go back to Brazil. One factor that u did not mention, and that I prefer by FAR in Brazil, is the healthcare system... we have both private and free options, and althought the public one is not perfect, is faster and WAY more efficient than the one in Canada (at least in Ontario).

Your story reminds me of my own about 20 years ago. I am originally from Toronto and spent some years in Sao Paulo. It was an interesting experience but I was always struggling about leaving the security and safety net offered by Canada and knew that I could not get that in Brazil unless I had a proper working visa. Each country has its pros and cons and i don't regret my time in Brazil - I met some really great people there and learned the language at an advanced level. I totally understand why you want to leave Canada for Brazil but at the same time, I felt my time in Brazil was more like a "working holiday" (I was also teaching English) and it was more of a short term solution for my career aspirations. Maybe if I had a proper working visa in Brazil things would have been more different.

Good video. I remember walking through that Portuguese neighborhood during the summer back in 2010. There was a small festival there and I thought it was cool.

The only way to live in these northern cities and keep your sanity is in the summertime and then leave in the winter.

Everything you spoke is dead on, as usual. 😄

British people are being told move to Dubai for better quality of life as UK is in a inflation high tax mess, that includes high prices of gas and electricity. High rents and high cost of living. I heard if you get a good job in Dubai your much better there.

I was quicky in Toronto a long time ago and the city reminded me São Paulo city in certain aspects.
Each person has their own concepts, but as a Brazilian at first sight what I would consider better in Rio as a city is the public transportation (buses and subways). Subways are very modern, safe and clean in Rio and São Paulo, no homeless etc.; in general no more than 1 or 2 minutes until the next train arrives, rarely have a problem etc. Excluding the climate, Brazilians from both cities living in Canada probably miss this aspect.

As a Rio expert can you do a zone map video.
The main inquiry is given that leblon to impanema is expensive and heavily policed. anything outside that is what? Flamingo is beautiful but more dangerous...
But what about the rest of Rio. Can you make the same comparison to Brooklyn vs upstate NY?

As in if you live an hour + out of the city does it become "safer"?

Looks like Chicago where I am from. And reside. Canada seems great but too too cold. Very expensive but Chicago has been very high too.
