My experience in Catalunya is not of a closed society, but one where friendships are made early in life and carry through the years. Thus, it seems "closed" to newcomers. Yet, letting out of Barcelona and into towns and villages, i have found a welcoming place. BTW I speak Castillano, but not yet Catalan, and I am in the process of moving to the Baix Ebre of southern Tarragona Province.

Australia is not at all “multi-cultural country” as he claims. It is a settler colonial white country. In that aspect, since both of us live in Spain, it is way more diverse with people from every part of the world living here. Did the Ozzie gentleman learn how to speak Catalan or Español, after 18 years? Language opens up world, unlike anything else. And personally there is nothing wrong with living with parents, as long as its sustainable.
