It's time to DeGoogle your phone and take back some of your privacy. CalyxOS contains features and options not found in most mobile device manufacturers' official firmware. Included are phone dialer interaction with encrypted calling apps like Signal and WhatsApp, Tor integration, and free VPN services provided by The Calyx Institute and other non-profits like Riseup. DuckDuckGo is the primary search engine, and DuckDuckGo's Android browser is the default web browser in CalyxOS. MicroG is also included in CalyxOS as a privacy-enhancing substitute for some of the Google Play Services features. CalyxOS has also led the development of SeedVault an encrypted backup and restore application for integration into Android based Operating systems and which has been adopted in LineageOS, GrapheneOS, and others.

SeedVault, an encrypted backup and restoration solution for Android-based operating systems that has been used by LineageOS, GrapheneOS, and others, was also developed by CalyxOS.

By default, the operating system strives to maintain the Android security model, taking full advantage of Android's Verified Boot system of cryptographic signature and running with a closed boot loader. Apple has recently been in the news for spying on it's users, installing CalyxOS will help you reclaim some privacy in the digital world.

This was incredibly helpful, thank you! Also just a side note - it worked on my M1 Mac, despite the warning on the website.

This was a fantastic tutorial, however I’m stuck and need help. I got all the way to locking the boot loader at the end but I see boot slot “b”, not “a”like you show here. At that point, I either clicked start or just waited (can’t remember which) and a little funny icon appeared and I ended up in a vicious circle of fastbootd menus and nothing working. I figured I nearly bricked my daughters new pixel 4a, so I spent the next hour fumbling through getting google OS back on. It’s working now, but I would LOVE to attempt to get Caylx to work. I can’t figure out where I went wrong…followed this exactly. Any help is appreciated!

Hi thanks for the video, I'm stuck at the verification of the factory image. It doesn't appear to be the same! could you help me out? I'm hoping to install on a pixel 6a so the file I download is called bluejay. Once the download begins it has the correct file name but then as soon as it's downloaded it turns into a folder with several files. I picked the large zip file to verify but the tag is different, I don't want to go beyond this step! Many thanks

Just a suggestion you can team up with Android Privacy Lab, as he did an awesome walk through video for people after installing CalyxOS, what to do next and what everything means, and what settings to use for max privacy et. I commented on his video to link to your step by step install video because you did a great job on that one. Thank you.
