Why Hollywood keeps making terrible sequels

2016 has been a record-setting year for terrible movie sequels.

Hollywood knows people will watch sequels no matter what. That's why there's like 37 Fast and Furious movies.

Because they get lazy. They know that if the first movie was half decent then peeps will go see the sequel regardless of its quality.

I guess the reason most critics dislike Horror, Action and Comedy films is probably because they are so over made, they are just predictable. Going into a horror film for example, you can tell when a jump scare is coming - wide angle shot with the protagonist surrounded by mostly darkness, most likely if they are looking in a mirror or something like that. It just becomes sort of cliché after a while. Definitely not always the case, like sometimes there is fantastic horror films, but most of the time those films just seem to be repeating what is part of a tired genre.

Critics trash Horror, Action and Comedy because there are tons of them. While normal audiences watch around a dozen films in cinemas, critics watch hundreds. The disparity means critics will give credit to originality, innovation, and coherent stories, while penalizing overused plot device, movie cliches, and brainless entertainment (sex, blood, and explosion).
