MuddyBootz Allotment #146 - Potato Trials Begin - Chitting Sweetcorn

Показать описание
I have decided for this season to trial potatoes grown in tubs versus grown in the ground. Sarpo Mira is the variety. Watering will be the main task for those in the tubs, so I have surrounded them in rotting horse manure, to help retain moisture. The Sweetcorn seed is placed on damp kitchen roll to chit and Marshalls Seeds contact me to finally resolve the previous issues. Sit back and ENJOY!!!

Nice result with Marshall’s Nigel. I’ve only grown sweet corn once up here, and got the plants on WAY too late in the season so the cobs didn’t have time to mature. I’m giving them another go this year (wasn’t in the plan lol) and they’ve started to germinate, so we’ll see how they get on! Great update as usual :)

Hi Nigel, A great job there with your potatoes, I like the way your tubs just appear on the raised bed without you carrying them😃, you should have a very good harvest from that patch, Marshalls certainly looked after you because of their mistakes, Thanks for sharing Nigel and Take care.👍

Leaving my main crop until the next Bank Holiday Nigel and I am hoping for better results using my TPS Sarpo Mira, looking forward to getting my new beds done.

Great news about the onion sets and the compensation, ,well worth letting them know about your disappointment, , I’ve just sown some salad and lettuce leaves using your non drainage system so will let you know how they do, , it’s all go down at watery lane, , bit of nice weather has brought the weeds out, , will sow some incredible in the next few days, , watch your back Nigel shifting the sh*t, ,

I look forward how seeing which spuds do the best, Nigel! I will be experimenting with the 30 litre buckets - I will which yields the most with either 6X fertiliser or Medwyn's potato fertiliser.

Thanks for the nice video! Please remember to be careful with your back! I think maybe that rascally seed company was finally hit with the realization that you are a popular YouTuber. I’m cheering for the potatoes in the ground!

Good job with the potatoes mate. I reckon the ones in the ground would do better in the ones in the bucket full stop it look like you did get caught by the sun you wanna find a tree with more leaves on next time😅😅. Good news with Marshall's. All the best Nic 👍

Hi Nigel, great to see that you are giving buckets a go. I remember you saying that digging up potatoes was one of your pet hates! Interesting to see you chitting sweetcorn. I find in general that it germinates easy enough without needing to do that? Good news on the Marshalls refund. Take care. Nick

Great vid Nigel. I reckon it will be close thing ground vs buckets with you as you prepare the soil very well. PM me if you want some HT onions (offer still open).

Cracking update I actually spent most of the Easter weekend down the allotment, Wilko, pub, pub and then the pub again. I did do quite a bit in the poly tunnel so I’m feel the love again although my ankle has started playing up again today. Oh well grin and bear it us Black Country folk are ‘ard! Lol 😂 going to till one of beds hopefully tomorrow night and then get my remaining 9 buckets put out with my potatoes in. I think I’ll then the same was as you’re doing and sink them down in to the raised bed. On a light side Saturday night I woke up at 9:15 pm in the poly tunnel after listening to the radio all day and drinking a few too many ciders me thinks. Anyhow had a walk back towards home and into Ma Pardoes !!!! With regards to the seed companies etc I must admit any ones I’ve contacted when I haven’t been happy ate most apologetic and normally send you replacements or the same as in your case refund plus a credit note cheers 🍻

I put mine in last weekend...into pure sand!....new plot, no car to get hold of anything. Hoping to cover with grass cuttings if it ever rains and the grass grows.

I can see how the harvesting will be a lot easier using the tubs. Good luck with the corn. Finally you hear back from Marshalls. Have a great week. Best wishes Bob.
