I’m sure the company’s IT team asked for cybersecurity funding repeatedly, and the all knowing leadership probably said no to cut costs and boost profits.

They will make customers pay for this somehow.

I feel their pain. It’s something like being unable to buy cars just because you can’t afford them anymore.

Should we really feel bad for an industry that makes too many cars and it is a huge waste. If you make quality cars. You dont need to make new models every year.

Suspects include anyone that has had to be in the same room as a car salesman

Yet another reason not to buy a new car...

I will stick with my old yet proven, non-invasive, non-networked car.

All could have been prevented, but businesses LOOOVE cheaping out on cybersecurity. What could have been tens of thousands in prevention just turned into tens of millions in ransom.

This is what happens when you centralize billings to make a psuedo monopoly and gouge customer
You build your own Achilles heel

It's all of us, persons and businesses. I've got six 'offers' for credit monitoring going on at once right now, when I should be getting actual compensation for every single one of them. If they can't protect my information, then they should not have it anywhere; I'm sick to death of their failures.

Why don't they have backup systems that can be brought online within hours?
WTF do they mean they don't know if customer data was compromised?... that sounds like all of it was and they're delaying the inevitable.

Wait till they start hacking the actual cars! We’ve got that to look forward to as well.

God forbid if they go back to pen and paper and using a little brain.

I was going to play something sympathetic on the world’s tiniest violin… but to buy the only one I could find, I would have had to pay 20% over MSRP and also get fabric protection, undercoating, pay doc and dealer prep fees, get a wheel and tire and key policy, and buy an extended warranty I don’t want.

But seriously… although car dealers suck, it’s bad to just pay off the hackers, it means they’ll keep doing it and sooner or later it’ll hit us, not “the other guy”.
