Take a little tour of my tiny house at Wild Abundance where I live simply and sustainably!

@WildAbundance is a unique skills education center nestled in the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina, just outside Asheville. In-person workshops offer hands-on experience with excellent teachers -- great training for those into DIY projects. Topics include basic and advanced carpentry, tiny house construction, timber framing, gardening, permaculture, foraging, wildcrafting, rewilding, and herbal medicine-making to help you live more sustainably. If you seek a more fulfilling lifestyle and want to experience the empowerment that comes from learning the skills to build your dreams, Wild Abundance is an amazing resource. Some classes are just for women, and this school attracts interesting, diverse, and positive people from all over.

The founder, Natalie Bogwalker, is a Dear Friend and colleague and she has created an environment with deep integrity. Of all the places I have visited, Wild Abundance shines out as a place where I recommend to learn the skills to live sustainably and reconnect with Earth.

Remember we can do 95% of this stuff already where we live especially if you live in the suburb URBAN residential lot. That’s what I do even though my neighborhood is in the city but unincorporated, so we do not have a homeowner association. But I collect rainwater, reuse my urine in the garden. Grow lots of food and front and backyard because the front I remove all plants and replace them with edible plants so I have an edible landscape so it looks like a normal Front Yard for the most part without the empty lawn growing just grass, so lots of flowerbeds, and in the center and some edges have edible plants and flowering plant plants that are edible. The only thing I do not do yet is the composting toilet. But as for composting, most of my food scraps and yard waste is done on site. Hardly any trash goes into the trash receptacle for City pick up. cardboard boxes and shredded letters without plastics, all that stuff goes into the yard as mulch. Flush my toilet for number two and collect number one urine to use on diluted in the garden around trees and shrubs. Just every month adopt one new thing to reduce waste and make it part of your lifestyle to reduce consumption by reusing and living sustainably by looking for ways of eliminating dependency on City. Learn to do this now or learn to do it when you’re forced to because it’s coming with the climate drastically changing, food shortages, electricity and power outages shortages, and natural disaster. Be a survivalist where you are. Don’t need to move out into the woods or sticks, or the mountains are away from civilization.… as beautiful as those settings are! The more city dwellers and suburbanite who know how to Homestead without livestock by gardening And food foresting, the better for reducing pollution and dependency.

Beautiful spot, and beautiful earth care sentiments. Some recycled windows with glass to keep the view and as bear, rat prevention food retention would be prudent. I used to live and work in Borneo in a jungle region. So many animals gained entry before bars were installed…as with the humidity windows had to be opened. A Cobra entered under the front door gap in the door. Massive male gibbons. 2 meter monitor lizards ect….ect…..As a woman living alone in the 80’s (no phone or internet to seek assistance) those animals got a bit hairy…..fine outside…..David Attenborough filmed many sequences for “The Secret Life of Plants” nearby……the untouched virgin jungle and ecosystems where I lived were teaming with life and animals.
You look so happy and grounded. As usual I am enjoying seeing you live so sustainably and sharing low tech sustainability options.

Thank you so much Robin! Yes and when you're at Wild Abundance your poop is NOT anyone's problem, but an asset to all our plant relatives!!

I try not to take someone else's life as almost "gospel" for my own life direction, but am definitely very inspired by you! I also enjoy reading the comments of other like-minded people. I've been searching for a better way to live ever since I hiked the Appalachian Trail a few years ago. Do you get a lot of mosquitoes nibbling at you while you're trying to fall asleep? What do you do about it? do you have a mosquito net?

Simple and grounded. I'm glad to see you so happy. I want you to know that I've grown lots of vegetables this summer and have just started with apple harvest. I'll eat 2-3 apples daily all the way to January. I have nice utchiki kuri -pumpkins ripening on my vegetable lot. Next weekend I have plans to go forage mushrooms with my friends, go to sauna and sleep two nights in a tent by the Baltic sea. I'm grateful to have friends that share these ecological values and antimaterialistic hobbies. ❤

Very cool! I could never have mouse intrusion, they’ve ruined so many things of mine in the past and make a smelly mess. But I find it very admirable that you can live like this! I live in a 1988 24ft camper on family land, semi off grid since Sept 2018.

You remind me of the "Native American Indians" who honored the land with their lifestyle...enabling future generations to do the same!

Rob, first, thank you!

You need to make more videos!

I know you mentioned de-centering yourself in the last video, but you're making a big impact and the more videos you make the more you inspire people to treat the earth, and themselves better.

I am impressed that you built your own Tiny house which is simple and sustainable. To be honest, I love to have this environment-friendly lifestyle. Even though you used plastic buckets and glass bottles to store your food and water. Without these materials, it is hard to make it as simple as you did. I felt like it was a game, to grow own foods, and natural materials for daily use. With your stories and sharing content, I think I am growing more interested in living with nature even small steps in sustainability. Hope to hear more sustainable stories from you, the Robin Hood of modern times.
