Indeterminate VS Determinate Tomato Plants (Comprehensive Guide)

It's time to start getting tomato seeds ready to plant. But what is the difference between determinate and indeterminate tomato plants, and which ones should you grow in your garden this year? Whether you are a beginner or seasoned gardener, watch this video and see my comparison of indeterminate vs determinate tomato plants. Hopefully you will learn something new!

Understanding the difference between determinate and indeterminate tomato plants is key for all tomato growers. This provides information on the growth habit of the tomato plant, which in turn allows the gardener to make decisions on whether they require determinate or indeterminate tomato plants in their garden based on space, fruiting time frame, etc. This also tells a gardener whether or not they should be pruning their tomato plants.

Growing tomato plants can be very rewarding for both new and experienced gardeners. This is why I will be creating lots of videos on tomatoes this season. If you are interested in learning how to grow tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, lettuce, and more, then this is the right channel for you!

Hope you enjoy this video, if you do please leave a like, it would be kinda cool if it could get 100 likes. If you have any questions about gardening or this video please ask in the comments. Thanks for watching! Stay tuned for new videos every week!

I usually look at several videos to get a clear picture of a thing.
Your video is the only one I need. Truly a comprehensive guide!

Thank you! This is exactly what I was looking for. I wish I would have researched this months ago before I planted my tomatoes in the greenhouse. But, this will help me while planting next year.

Love your channel and just subscribed. Yesterday was the first time I bought 2 tomato plants - Little Bing Cherry Tomatoes and Beefsteak Tomatoes. What are these and where should I plan them, indoor or outdoor? I am in Zone 5 with a short growing season and a lot of snow. Thank you so much.

I have a question, as someone who wants to grow hydroponically and commercially and who doesn't have a problem with space (especially vertical) which is better? I read that determinate will generally grow in 2 months (after transplanting) my question is in will it be more productive for me to grow the determinate one and harvesting every two months and planting an other one? or growing the indeterminate one and letting it go for however long it would go (how long would it go if it's protected from frost?) so basically in 4 months, does the indeterminate plant produce enough for 2 determinate plants?

I would really appreciate some help on this. I have some tomato plants growing in containers, and I have no idea if they're determinate or indeterminate. They have been planted in soil for only about a month now, so it's kind of hard to tell since they're still young. they have been growing quite rapidly but are currently not more than 2 feet tall. Is there a way to find out if they're determinate or indeterminate from the appearance alone? If this helps, I know that the varieties I have are "Sweet cherry million" and I think I also have Heirloom, as I can tell from the unique shape of this tomato in the beginning of the fruiting stage. Please let me know your thoughts!

Hi Lucas. So would you recommend a determinate to be grown in a pot on a deck as opposed to indeterminate? Thanks, Jay (Windsor, ON).
